nice find

first of all let me say thank you for your service to Country. Looks like you have a very nice frame to start with. Can you give me some measurements of the frame?? also you prob will want to run a Torque Converter instead of a Centrifical Clutch. However depending on how much you want to spend you could also go with a heavy duty Cent. Clutch. It would be cheaper than the Torque Converter. Sit on the frame and make sure you want to cut and lengthen. Also after you decide what drive setup you will be going with, you need to lay out the engine, mounting plate, axle, etc to see how much room they will take up. Im not familiar with racing frames as much as off road frames so Im not sure where your motor will go on your particular frame. Ive seen some racing karts with the motor mounted beside the seat.

Ok thanks, I have sat on it and my legs hit the steering rods bc the pedals are fwd of the tie rods. BC its a racing frame its small and tight. I am looking a engines right now, not sure of the size, I weigh 200 and the frame is a good 50lbs right now and I want plenty of speed out of it 20 -25mph is good. SO what engine would u suggest, i have more pics i can upload

ok after looking at your pics closer heres what I see- your steering is already setup very nicely. the rear axle already has a nice disc for hyd of mechanical disc brakes.

here is what I would do- find some pics on the web of your brand frame completed, and look at how they setup their motors. no sense in reinventing the wheel.. You have quite a bit already going for you with what you have. a good place to start would be to find what motor you are going to use. check out this web site http://www.affordablegokarts.com/ they have some photos of frames similiar to yours with the motors mounted beside the seat. some of them even run two motors. affordablegokarts.com sell tons of performance parts for Honda motors and Honda Clones. They even sell already modified motors for cheaper than you can buy and mod your own. Their throttle linkage kits have so far been the best mech. throttle setup I could find. I know many other guys on here will have even better advice for you. Kibble, Jr Tyler, Kenny, Russ, IronMan, and Im sure others are very cool about sharing their wisdom. Let me know if I can help in any way. my email is jarcynvicnchris93@yahoo.com Im retired so jetskis and go-karts are about the main thing I do besides take care of my 8 and 6 year olds.

good luck man,
Jared Jones

20-25??? r u sure that is as fast as you want to go?? cuz a mildly modified clone 5hp will scoot you way faster than that. Please correct me guys if I am wrong about that... come on man some of those racing karts go in excess of 70. at least I think they do.. Tyler should prob chime in here because he really knows way more about kart speed than I do. (hence his way sweet dragster) I think Ironman or Russ posted some great info on how to estimate potential speed the other day. As soon as I get out of my doctor appointment here at the OKC VA I will research that speed post and get back to you. I weigh 250, and am 6 foot 5 and my bone stock 8hp with a Comet series 40 would get me going over 45, and that was not even Wide Open Throttle.

you really should check out the affordablegokarts.com web site for their engines.. also if you want a fun motor to start with you can usually find the 6.5 hp Honda Clone on sale at Harbor Freight for around $129. I bought one not long ago for $85. and with a few simple mods it could really be wicked sweet. the cool thing about a Clone is even if you blow it up it is cheap to replace. A genuine Honda costs waaaaaay more..

legs hitting tie rods

"Ok thanks, I have sat on it and my legs hit the steering rods bc the pedals are fwd of the tie rods. "

I think that is exactly the way this kart should be. I think you put your legs over the top of the tie rods and run the pedals.. or you could run hand controls like Im going to.. look at Kibbles recent build. very similiar frame like yours and he is kind of a tall guy as well. you might call the guys at affordable karts and see if they have any suggestions for your frame and how to set it up.. they have given me some advce on my motor. of course I am also buying some parts from them.. gotta go man but I will be back on the forum later tonight. if you have any questions feel free to email me and I can give you my cell number. you can call me anytime for kart stuff. anything for a fellow veteran.

That frame look's like it's been through quite a bit and probably is quite tired but it was desihned to be power slid into every corner on a go kart racing track at speed's in excess of 50 MPH. The rear axle bearing carrier's on the botto axle is a very good and durable desihn. I have the same ones on my dragster.

I doubt that you'll really be able to even help going faster than the 20-25mph that you're anticipating. I have a 5hp Briggs and Stratton that I haven't done anything to really (aside from a straight pipe exhaust and removing the governor) and it'll go about 40mph without holding to pedal all the way down (don't wanna blow it up) and I am 180 lbs. I had someone following me to check my speed. You'd probably have to have a pretty low hp motor to go that slow (or maybe a Tecumseh).

lol...i have one of those! 5horse tecumseh. no upgrades except a TC n itll run around 30-35

Yeah, well I've just never had any luck at all with a Tecumseh. I'll drive Fred Flintstone style before I own another one. I'm glad yours does fine though.

parma heights, oh
when valves start floating the springs can't keep up with the cams and the valves won't close on time which kills compression. the engine usually just won't go any faster unless you get stiffer springs. someone correct me if i'm wrong though
