I thought I could sit back and just watch for a while, since this is a rather interesting topic basically...

But you know, right now I think it's time to amuse you with a story that happened when I was young enough to go to school :D

we in germany have a number of different secondary schools;
basically you'll get categorized in elementary school and end up in the type of secondary that most likely matches your intellect.
(you can switch ... nevermind)
if your categorized as being -let's say intellectually impaired- you end up in a school that doesn't provide you with a chance of a university-entrance diploma or even high school education;
one that's some sort of junior high,
and for those considered smart enough something resembling a high-school.
Hard to explain our system but you get the idea.
Teens the same age are in up to five different kinds of school based on their rating (uhm yeah.. teachers make mistakes sometimes, that's why you can switch)

Anyways,
let's just call them secondary school and high school for this story, but keep in mind that this is not based on age.

So when I was young, we had that radio station where kids/teens could call in and ask anyone to meet them to see a movie or something, some sort of ancient facebook ;)

So one day two girls called said radio station,
asking for two boys willing to share a movie. (No, this is not considered a date in germany ;))

The host asked them about their age, and their "preferences" and such and immediately one of them replied.
"No we're okay with anybody, as long as they don't go to high school!"
The host obviously with h-s graduation asked:
"What, why no high school boys?"
And the other girl replied:
"Well, we go to secondary school, and 'high schoolers' are all prejudiced against 'secondaries' all the time."
Host: "All??"
Girls: "YES!"
Host: "Always???"
Girls: "YES!"
Host: "Prejudice??"
Girls: "YES!"
Host: "well then, if anyone is willing to share their time with two of such fine girls without any prejudice they're welcome to call in..."

I laughed so hard, I immediately spray-coated my entire homework with coke!

There is a definite right and wrong. As robbie has pointed out, the easiest way to figure out which one is to eliminate the other person. ( This is the way the mob does it- and it works every time. ):lolgoku:

So: Sara and I went to the movies. Then some bullies picked on Sara and me.

Wonderful explanation. So, how do you explain

I guess Mother Teresa and me didn't make the trip.

...or was that intentional

Robbie, while you have a definite point about certain "people" being ignorant and pretentious, I would only class ONE who fit that description when I was attending Catholic school. I didn't find out that :censored: like that existed until I wound up in the :censored: public school system.

To have you claim that someone "Must have attended Catholic school" because of the way they were teaching a subject is as arrogant and ignorant as you claimed that one of the best teachers I've so far had was.

Judgments are based on actions. It's nothing personal. A guy who walks into traffic can be called reckless, a guy who eats an entire watermelon is a glutton, and a teacher who teaches incorrect information is a bad teacher, at least at the moment when the incorrect teaching is occurring. I certainly wasn't characterizing teachers in general, although if you want to know what I think of schools or teachers you are welcome to ask. I have some rather unorthodox views on the subject.

The comment about Catholic school was supposed to be funny. I'm not into all the LAWLZ crap because I trust people to discern humor without a crutch. Sometimes it doesn't work. Anyway, comments had already been made about Catholic schools, so I figured my comment would be taken as a joke. I always take Catholic school as a joke.... LOL LOL LOL (I hope that helps.)

Any professional teacher who punishes the use of correct grammar while misrepresenting incorrect grammar as correct is by definition ignorant and pretentious. It's nothing personal, but it's true. Everybody has strengths and weaknesses. I'm sure your teacher was a delightful person, but unfortunately ill equipped to teach grammar. She probably went to Catholic school.

As I said before, I spent the first three years in Catholic school. I was a very bright student but there was another reason that they wanted to skip me a grade. My mother didn't want to do it because it would make me younger than my classmates.

I spent all of 4th grade and most of 5th paying almost no attention to the teaching, and drawing pictures. I maintained straight A's while waiting for the rest of the class to catch up with what I already knew.

I learned to read and write through Phonics while Public Schools were teaching by memorization. Just one example of how much better the Catholic school curriculum was.

But I don't mind making fun of or when someone else does. Some of those nuns were downright mean and borderline psyco in the name of discipline. I shudder to think how much better my penmanship might be if not crippled by a ruler.:lolgoku:

So when you say "Whose next?" are you just being funny, or do you not remember the difference between who's and whose? Or is that an indication of what it took to maintain perfect grades in your school? I don't get it.

well i spent the first 4 years in a very public school of 13 kids
that didn't end well as a small school doesn't attract the best teachers (or teacher)
then did home schooling for 3 years where my mother attempted to get me to write properly but my that point the basics weren't set in that most learn in the first years

did 5 years at a top Anglican boarding school
but by that point i was always long behind the class
by year 10 i decided this ability to write huge detailed essays was a useless skill
gave up on it all together

focused on useful subjects
like metal work, maths, chemistry, physics, and business management
having managed to ace those and get top 10 of year for maths and chemistry i feel that has set me up just fine
funny how being in the workforce for only three years now
Pythagoras is a very useful formula when trying to make things square
not once has my shocking hard writing or non existing grammer have even been noticed

Whose line is it. ....anyway? I've lost a lot of brain cells since then. A total slip on my part. Everyone has their intellectual kryptonite.

You too huh. I used to tell apprentices "if you failed maths, don't get into panel beating..."

Construction too. Almost every framer knows how to "6 8 10" something for square but probably few know why it works.
