i like the template,

it's just like the side shaft models, only, it drives a belt. revving is pulling.

i don't know how fast mine will go, i haven't driven it down the road, plus, i'm changing the ratio, with the new 8" wheel set up.

i just got off the phone, with my friend that got me the charging system,(for free), and he's gonna check on a couple of old riders, that may have the 700 series transmission, and if so, i might go ahead, and get whatever he has.

Oh- I see what you're trying to say. To clarify: Centrifugal clutches are available in both chain and belt variations. There is no different model for horizontal or vertical shaft applications. For a vertical shaft lawn tractor engine, you are very likely going to need a 1" unit. Please also note that there's nothing preventing you from using a chain here- it does NOT have to be a belt.

With a Peerless "race-prepped mower tranny", you'll have 5 gears plus reverse. Put it in 5th and go 30mph no problem, as long as you've got decent power and final gearing. Note that you can't shift one of these trannys on the move though, if that's what you're after then you'll want to look into something else (motorcycle tranny or whatnot).

IF a big IF....... i went with a motorcycle tranny, how would I hook it to the vertical shaft engine?

You wouldn't. You'd be using the bike engine/tranny as a combo. Anything else is impractical unless you have your own machine shop ans a desire to pour a LOT of time into it.

toystory.....what model peerless 700 would you recommend? Given whats been said. AND I am looking for hubs with AT LEAST a 4 1/2 bolt pattern so I can re-drill them. Where can I find them?

Any 700 will be fine. They are available with 2-5 forward gears, 5 being the most common. There's short and long output shaft variants, as well as sintered and machined gear versions.

If you get a model with, say, 3 forward gears, you can get more gearsets from the ultra-common 800 transaxle and fit them. I converted my 3-speed into a 4-speed with 800 parts.
