Found another go cart

Hi guys, found another go cart about half hour drive from my house. Hard to tell from the picture what it is, but it has a 6.5 horsepower power fist engine. He says in the add that it runs good, so going to call him to see if he still has it and maybe go look at it. Looks like a complete go cart, he wants $175.00 firm on his price. Is it woth it.

I think so, especially if it runs.

You couldn't buy an engine & a chassis for under $200, not to mention all the other bits & pieces needed

Hi guys and gals, just got back from looking at the go cart. He drove it around the farm and it runs good, could use some work like better front suspension etc. I got it for one hundred and fifty dollars, gave him fifty dollars down payment till i get paycheck on oct 25th. Then i will go pick it up, some pics coming for all to see the go cart better.

The go cart has the 6.5 horsepower power fist engine on it, is that a good engine. Thinking maybe go bigger to about 12-16 horsepower motor, but not sure what brand engine to buy that will fit the frame. Time will tell i guess.

The bigger the engine, the more it weighs. Unless you build that engine to within an inch of it's life or replace it with a dirtbike engine you're gonna have balance issues which lead to handling issues.

Thanks for the info on posting, still learning to navigate this site. So i might just try to do some upgrades on the motor and maybe the gearing to get more power. We will see how well it runs and fast before i do any work on it.

There are lots of simple & inexpensive mods (maybe even free depending on your skill level) you can make to improve performance...

I do have experience in building engines, and i do bodywork and welding for a living. So building go carts and motorcycles are not a problem for me, its all in the planning of what parts are needed and best to use for the build. I love working with steel and fabricating all sorts of projects, have been welding for over ten years now.

Have you got the engine running yet?
I would first get the engine run and take it for a few spins. If you don't like the torque or speed we can do something about that.
Let's try first the 6.5hp engine, if you want more, you can always change to a bigger one later.

Hi Nodroz, the go cart is running and driveable. We tried it out on his farm before i was willing to buy it. It seems fairly fast, i want to move the motor from side mounting on go cart to behind driver seat. So i will need to do some fabrication on rear frame and suspension to make enough room for it to fit.

I will also need to redo the front steering and suspension to make it more stronger with better material, if you can tell in the third picture the linkage for pedals and steering are very light material. And i want some nice brake and gas pedals compared to the ugly little steel kind of pedals. I will post up alot of close up pics when i get the go cart home next thursday.

As you would know, the better an engine breathes, the better it runs; start with a hi flow air filter & exhaust

Can hardly wait till payday this coming wednesday, to go get the little go cart. Have alot of ideas of how i want to re design the whole go cart. Making a solid work table to put it on so i can work on it. Thinking of the color to paint it to make it look real cool.

Todays fun, been tearing down the little go cart. So i can clean up the whole frame for priming and painting, and do any modifications needed on frame suspension and steering. A few more pics.
