Awesome design!! Any updates?

Thanks! Sorry i havn't updated in a while. I started playing baseball for my school and I havn't had any time to work. I have gotten a few things done though...

Today I finished bracing the front end of my frame to get it ready for the front suspension assy.

I finished machining my axles a few days ago. I just need to reassemble them

Yesterday I spent 4 hours cleaning my shop. Now I can actually find my tools :D

The biggest thing ive done for the buggy is cut out all my rear suspension brackets. All of them where CNC'd in my shop class

All are 3/16 steel

Fitment in Frame

Does anyone knoww where I could rent a tubing bender from in MN?

looks like its coming along nicely!

-you might get a pipe bender from united rentals or a plumber.

-maybe you could use a tubing bender at a local shop?

-if you really want maybe you could buy the hf pipe bender then return it? :D

p.s. your making me wish i had a school with a shop!

Having a school shop is great! It's what got me into metal working stuff, then karting, and consequently cars, which is now leading me into my college major, Mechanical Engineering. Thankfully, I finally got the scores to get into some GOOD engineering schools. But anyways it saves money if the teacher is cool with you. Like the drain cover in our garage rusted in, then collapsed in, so we needed a new one but none of the store ones fit cause the recessed lip was filled with old, rusted cover. So I went in, asked, cut the circle, welded on some pegs with the same OD as the drain hole's ID, drilled holes, sand blasted, and clear coated. Now we saved $15 and have a super strong drain cover. It's very useful having a shop at school.

Having a shop at school is one of the best things. Im in woods right now and my metal shop teacher said I could use the shop during his first hour prep to build my cage. Gotta love that. I've been able to do so many things with the shops tool that I couldn't do at home.

NEED OPINIONS: I just found a 2002 GSXR motor that I can pick up for $125. It needs all the electronis but the whole motor is there, and I can get all of them for less than $100. Pics below. Lemme know what you guys think.

I'd put a GSXR engine on everything if I could

My budget kart weighs around 150 lbs and I would put a GSXR engine on it in a heartbeat. lol

Do youthink it will over power the buggy? How many lbs do you think it will be when done?

I think it should be fine, (I mean it only puts out 120hp.) As of right now the bare frame weighs about 90lbs. Im ecpecting it to be about 200 lbs in a rolling chassis, and 350lbs fully assembled w/ gas, oil, etc. Im going to check it out later today hopefully so Hopefully it will be in good condition.

It that a 1000cc motor? It looks like it needs a lot, but if it's got good compression and spark and you can get all of the parts needed for <$100, do it!

I think its a 600cc? But looking at that frame, I would say it looks like a death trap. The engine bay looks to small to start with, and some of those welds and open box section ends looks less than appealing. If you do go ahead, I think some work needs to be done the frame work first.

Well, according to Wikipedia, they made only the 600cc and 1000cc in 2002, so we're on the right track. By looking at photos and trying to ID it, I came up with nothing, but the conclusion that it's missing a lot unless there are parts to it elsewhere.

Its a 600. Aparantly it just had a rebuild so Ill have to check into that when I go look at it. I looked on ebay, and I confirmed that I can get all the parts for $100 or less.

Please, excuse my ignorance. I do know what the difference is between a tac and full bead is...

The white circle, a tac weld.
The black circle, sure the weld looks lovely, but thats the problem with MIG, the weld looks lovely but I cant see any heat penetration at all. That makes a very weak weld. Accompanied with, it looks like you didn't take the rust of the steel first.

Go ahead what do I care its not my live, but if you ask questions don't expect people to say its all dandy when its not.

Sorry I didn't know you could properly judge a weld from so far away...Even if you could, one weld dosen't explain them all. I will remove all the rust when Im ready to weld everything. And no, I know its not perfect, but my mistakes will lead to perfection.

Sure, where do you want me to send it too?

Well I went and picked up the motor which is in GREAT condition. Best $125 ever spent :D . So Far I know I need a stator, ecu, throttle bodies, harness, starter and a rad. I know I can get all these parts for less than $100 though so I should be fine  .
