Are you going to try to get this thing street legal? That would be idea because you can't be nailed for taking it on roads then. How about syphon some with garden hose in the car, suck, and then quickly put it in the kart? Go 'til full, kink the hose and pull it out of the car.

I've got a 95 XJ Cherokee. The amount of gas that go-kart holds wouldn't fuel that thing for 10 miles. :roflol:

We're not necessarily making it street legal, just street safe mainly. I do a lot of driving around my neighborhood although I'm pretty sure the cops out here don't give a ****, plus I know most of them. We only take back-roads when driving on the street, though.

Getting it street legal would be pretty sweet though... I would like to drive it to school and save some gas! :roflol:

Well we have everything we need to make it street legal, as long as it has potential to go 45 lol, plus just get a golf cart permit for it :roflol:

It's plenty fast to get us a speeding ticket in town... :sifone:

The law says:

"Golf carts, four-wheeled ATVs and similar “non-highway vehicles” may operate only on streets with a posted speed limit of 35 mph or less."

So I think we're good seeing there are no speed limit signs above 35 in town.

I'll ask a police officer next time I run into one just to make sure.

Another thing I read was that the vehicle has to also be registered, pass DOT regulations, pass emissions standards and it has to be insured, so not so much. lol

Like I said, I'll ask a police officer next time I see one.

I'll probably end up mounting everything and leaving the wiring to you. We might have homeroom in the morning because we are probably switching to 2nd semester tomorrow.

I wonder how hard it would be to get a speedometer for the kart... lol

i don't think a speedometer would be that bad. of course it might cost you a bit, but you guys have only spent 45bucks on the whole thing, so i bet you can find some cash.

these are probably your two best options,

i have been meaning to buy this, but i'm just too cheap, and i dont really need it,
http://www.surpluscenter.com/item.asp?item=28-1751&catname=engines

you could also get a bike speedometer for as little as 5 bucks off eBay.

p.s. i'm jealous of you guys, driving these karts on the street, and having back roads to drive them on (cant leave my small neighborhood without going on to a road that i think is a highway (lots of traffic, and people go like 45-50, but it has houses and stuff on it so its not quite a highway, but still, not for karts! :()

EDIT: maybe if i take a path through the woods i can get to a non-highway road, but i will need a more all-terrain kart for that (not to mention waiting until i'm 16yrs old)

I thought the kart was empty not the car. Oops, just take the kart to school one day and not your jeep. Now THAT would be interesting.
