Scrap kart V2

Scrap kart V2 (Soon to be outboard powered)

Picked this kart up from the tip today, it's pretty dead but I reckon I can revive it, none of the wheels turn and neither does the steering. Spindles turn (rod ends have rusted away) but have some play in them.

It appears to be commercially made, does anyone know what it is?

I also Picked up a good Victa 125 engine, you can see where this is going. I might put the 4HP Briggs on it though.

I love finding stuff like this. If I had that kart I would make a big electrolysis bath. Strip what ever you can get off then Electrolysis the sucker. POR15 is calling your name with this kart. LOL

Yeah, I'l just wire wheel it, I live in the middle of no where so it's really difficult to get the right chemicals and stuff. Most of the frame isn't that bad, some it it just crumbles away. I certainly would be using electrolysis if I could! I was thinking of painting it with the old house paint we have! When I get an LJ Zook to restore I'l do the chassis and diffs with POR15, I promise!

It was the first time I've been to the tip in about a month, was certainly worth it! There was also a Suzuki RV125 there that had good compression but looked like it has been outside for 20 years! I wasn't allowed to take it unfortunately. I love little Zook RVs, a family friend has an RV90 that I've been riding for years and years, awesome little bike, they're big wheels, as I'm sure you know. Good luck at the scrappers!

You've gotta love the free stuff, eh?
I have been reading that electrolytic rust removal can also be done with standard baking soda, which you can get anywhere. You don't need a lot, either. I think it's around a teaspoon per 5 gallons (18 litres).

So, here's what I've decided.

I'l put the 4HP Briggs on it and give it Ben (a family friend). Then we can have scrap kart vs scrap kart V2 races around the triangle track.

That leaves me with 2 Victa 125s, twin engine vintage style kart anyone?

I'l keep it one wheel drive and add scrub brakes to it (currently it has no brakes and it doesn't look like it ever did!) pulley tensioner clutch of course.

That will be in contrast to the scrap kart V1 which will have a 160cc Victa, a live axle and most likely disc brakes. Should be good!

Thanks, I'l try it out, don't have a container big enough to do the kart though. I've got some other stuff I need to clean up that I'l try.

Don't have one actually! There's an old water tank on a 20 foot high stand, maybe that? Might be a bit hard to get the kart up there..... "1, 2, 3, throw!"

Perhaps a DIY go karts catapult build?

Chainsaw method would bring tank closer but that'd be one flat tank afterwards! We use it for emergency fire water anyway, I'm not sure it holds anything though.

The triangle track is an old council track joined up with someones firebreak, the fire break is clay and the council track is gravel, the track is in the shape of a triangle, obviously lol. It's probably 2 kms long, we usually race around it on an ancient 250 Suzuki quad and a Suzuki RV90, hell fun lol not really fair though, the quad is way faster. This is out the back of a family friends house. Should be fun on the karts!

POR15 would make that thing look new. Just drop it from about 10 feet. All the rust will just fall off. LOL

Just remember, rust is lighter than carbon fibre!

Sideways I got a 5" wheel you can have. Just pay shipping for Portland Oregon USA. Not sure if it is worth it for you. But I thought I would offer it.

The wheel has a 1" hub on it. Tire looks good.

But seriously, have you grinded/sanded any part down to see if it has anything left? lol
