Dont use it, just hook, the throttle directly to the carb buttefly, if she ever blows go buy a whole new harbor freight 6.5 for less than what your mech wants to fix the current one.

:iagree: it may sound idiotic, but its true. you can get a Harbor Freight 6.5 HP engine brand new for $130. So just use your engine now, and if it blows, get a new one for about the same as the mechanic would have charged you.

If ya got it on sale you will have $ left over for a AM rod so you can safely run ungoved. I would personally just beat that engine to see what it can take (if its got a jammed gov its not really worth fixing), I hear a real spectacular fun way to abuse on is to run it on coleman camping fuel.

Is this a flathead or OHV? If it's a flathead, usually you can rev it to the point that the valves float. Since its a flathead, it won't do any damage.

Methanol. Or empty out a can of starting fluid into the tank and run it off that

And if you do this, PLEASE get a video of it

And if the engine is a tecumseh powersport thing, you might as well cause those are crap, they have plastic cams from what I've heard

Briggs too. Tore down 2 '97's and there they were. Not a problem. Engines failed for other reasons.

...wow! I just adopted a Tecumseh PowerSport motor and was going to pull it apart and see what makes it tick! A HIGH WEAR part like a cam... plastic?!!!

As an alternate suggestion to torching the motor, give it to one of your kids, along with a box of tools, and let them play with it. My Dad did that for my brother and I, and I'm still grateful for that B/S 6B with the broken carb!
