Sorry to post this but I'm going to try and do the engine swap this weekend...I'm average at best with this sort of thing so I'm wondering if there is a good step by step project log out there that could help as I go? Thanks

Also, i think that was my first post ever on this message board.

one picture on that thread goes over how the torque converter was set up on it. If you do the 212cc engine, you will need to put the jackshaft sprocket on the outside of the torque converter driven unit because the engine shaft is so short and you need to line up the drive and driven units.

Well, got the motor swapped out this weekend. Super easy. Took a while but none of it was particularly difficult.

I recently acquired a Yerf Dog 3202 for $75.00 .It has a Tecumseh 6.5 engine. It has set out in the weather for two years. I was wanting to dump the engine. What would be a good direct replacement?

Just because an engine sat out in the weather doesn't mean it's toast. Inspect, analyze and replace what's faulty. Get it running and sell for profit-$$$ or keep for another project.

Yeah...here's the thing: I picked up the kart in my gallery for $20....I think it spent it's whole life outside...soooo...other than 4 new tires and a chain, a clutch and a carburetor....and some missing linkage parts...its all what I got...

Point is...it's a nice kart...didn't take too much $$$ to get there...and just replacing parts would have cost A LOT!

Which brings me to another point....this is a 5HP Stock Tecumseh....and trust me...it's quick off the line...and about as fast as you would wanna go....

Why in the heck do all the kids...(and mental deficits in East Texas) think they need 20+ hp when they've never even been 30 mph + in a gokart that went that fast....but let me tell you punksters that don't know...[because cars drive themselves now].....GOKARTS DON'T! ) And 120 mph in a bone stock '65 Falcon station wagon is hairy...but not as hairy as in a gokart not ready for 50 mph.....

This isn't Mario Kart....there's no reset button....GAME OVER....is for real!

Rant over....but smarten up out there...there is a reason for the saying you have to learn to crawl before you walk!

Thank you. An intact engine can sit outside for years with no ill effect except perhaps to the normal fuel system and ignition issues - maybe even a mouse nest under the cover. Nothing that would require you to dump it.

Sorry I gotta take his Side. 99 bucks for a plug and play Predator, Is better than the constant trail of tears caused by an old Tecrapsy with a bad carb.
I just wanna ride my Kart, not tune a poorly designed Carb all day every day.

But yes my teenager did leave her kart with a predator 212 out in the rain and weather all winter. Started 1st pull and continued all day on the old gas! last weekend!

Well, I've got to refute you because you're against the stated purpose of this forum, which is to DIY. You're just a parts replacer, dude and a true Generation Y'er. Instant gratification is your mantra.

Tearing an engine down to its component parts and building it back up again is its own special reward, especially on something as simple as a flathead Briggs or Tecumseh.

Try it sometime. You might like it.

All of which I have done. DIY??? have you seen my thread?
and... Ususally DIY is due to $$$ money, So yes I fabricate all sorts of parts. But I don't always see the point in spending 50 bucks on a junky Tecrapsy or Briggs then another 85 to get it going when 99 bucks gets you a brand new reliable engine!

BTW; Did you just decide to post on this 38 day dead thread, Just to pick on me? Necroposter!

Yes.

Depends on how far gone the engine is. If it takes considerably more cash to get it running than it is worth, or what it cost new, then yes by all means get thee a $99 Predator.

But I would never throw an old engine away that has potential.
