I know you guys are annoyed by Carsandcameras, but would you rather have them working as your Frontier customer service agent???

Just remember that this is how these guys make a living, and I'm personally glad for them that they can do that while basically playing with go karts!

As far as causing a bad rap for other kart builders, I think the people they "convert" FAR outnumber them. Sure it's not really amazing or very hard to repaint a kart and throw a bunch of new parts on it, then call it restored, but think of all the dads and kids with the wheels in their heads turning now, thinking: "MAN! I wanna build a go kart!"

And also these guys honestly have a bit of a dangerous living, with how Vasily crashed his buggy and messed up his leg for awhile, RBG's burned down 670 Yerf Dog, and Ike's 65MPH mower flip. I'm not sure any of us have riskier jobs than that.
Plus, have any of y'all ever tried filming/editing 2 videos a week to publish? While squeezing in some semblance of a normal life?? It ain't easy, I'm lucky if I can film and edit one video PER MONTH.

Rather B Welding, Moto Mule, Build Break Repeat, Vasily and RBG at least do good to excellent work and try to set a good standard, rather than doing what we all want to do (670 everything). Vasily learned from his mistakes and no longer trusts the stock throttle assembly. RBG now knows to not put the fuel above the exhaust of a 670. Set a good example.

I know there's a learning curve and these guys are all evolving. I guess I just don't find entertainment in just watching parts be assembled, while so much of the actual "building" is avoided or poorly done.

But you can't crank out 2 videos (at least not interesting ones) a week if you're spending months on each build.

True, my builds are slow, but so is video editing.
I once had footage for 2 or 3 videos queued up, and I tried editing and publishing them in quick succession, and I couldn't find the time, so it took a few weeks. And keep in mind that I'm homeschooled, so I have a lot of time.

And besides you guys, no one's MAKING you watch these videos.

You guys wanna see cutting corners on building?? I've got some footage of a 200% janky "first ride" on the Radio Rod I think I'll publish. Not to mention riding the Hothead with no kill switch and poor chain alignment in the past. Not to mention the absurdly dry rotted front tires that barely grip.

Not all of us want to 670 everything. I love building high rpm, nitro guzzling small blocks. My little motors make a lot of power, but I never post those because it felt like I was talking to myself in my racing thread.
I am going to do a video or two on my new motor for my race kart, but the price on that one is either out of reach or not justifiable to most karters. I just want to build the nastiest 14.5 CI small block that I can.

Only bit of nitromethane I'm exposed to have been 2 stroke r/c cars in the .15cid to .18cid range (2.5-3.3cc). I do know how expensive those engines can be to rebuild,I can probably grasp the cost of a 212 nitrometh conversion. I'd be interested in reading more builds of these. Even though I have very little to no interest in doing it myself, still would be a fun read.

When it comes to my project, I'm setting aside some money when I can for parts. Trying to get the small stuff first, then the larger when I get the room for it. I rather have a budget...or savings account (cheese ball jar) of money to use to fund it.

It it ls a fully suspended round tube frame off road kart to make yard work fun again.

Cost. About $600 spent (~100 a month for the project... thats my entertainment budget) I am adding another $130 on the front hubs, brakes and master cyl now... so lets say $750 in 7 months.

Has a stage 1 Predator 212 engine.
Rear monocross swingarm and 20" tires from a Yamaha 350 Warrior, front swingarms and shocks from a 110cc ATV.

Time investment:
Thinking/doing/writing hours add up to about 250 hrs...figure 2.5 hrs for the progress that goes into one of my posts @100 posts, or 22 weeks at 10-12 hrs/wk.

( So 305 lbs, it cost about 2 dollars a pound and took an hour per pound to make)

Top Speed. 41 MPH, but have not tested with new TC driven to document the ungoverned max RPM.

In the process of rescuing junk ATVs, I collected enough parts to start (but not finish) a second suspended kart.

Spare Parts Kart build should be half the cost of the build-off kart.

Well, I was reminded of this thread earlier this evening when my GF (who keeps up with everything) told me that she had gone over receipts for go kart stuff while doing taxes.
I was a little shocked to hear that we spent over $10k on go kart racing last year. The fuel and oil for my open alone was over $600.
Ugh, no wonder I’m broke.

I think what I need is a swift kick in the butt when I start considering upgrades. She kept up with everything because she said that since we won money, and I built a couple of motors for other people that we could use the expenses as a tax write off. She told me in no uncertain terms last night that there was absolutely no way that she was going to write off that much. She says it’s begging for an audit, and I don’t disagree.
I’m not real proud of the fact that I burned that much cash in one year on go karts, drag racing was more expensive, but I didn’t have her back then, so god only knows how much that costed me. I’m glad I don’t know honestly.
