Being as the crank spins counter clockwise, this in theory dosent seem possible. But I thought id ask anyways

Couldn't you use two jackshafts so the motor goes into JS1 then out via a cog and a cog into JS2 then a chain out to the sprocket? If you had a CW engine or needed to relocate the PTO, I think this could work.

I'm confused, left side of what? This is the Mini Bikes an Choppers forum.
Are you asking about installing an engine backwards in a mini bike (with the pto on the right), or do you just mean an engine on the left side of a go kart or maybe a motorised bicycle?

It would work...but would you want to? Nothing to be gained except some unnecessary complexity and added weight.

Oh, I agree entirely, but I was just proposing a solution for the sake of argument.

i used a js to re-locate the chain. worked out ok, but i would avoid it if possible. can you better explain what you want to do?

Ok a little off topic but while rebuilding my victa engine i wondered what would happern if i rotated the head 190 degrees so that the exhaust and inlet ports were on the other side of the motor :idea2:

just for the sake off argument

You can turn the barrel 180* on a Victa with no problems, make sure you put the head on the same way so the ignition lead will still reach though.

Useless fact: On Victas industrial engines, you could order them with the barrel turned around 180*.

I've got one I turned the barrel around on, works well.

Thanks

Hayden
