Would a 2 speed gearbox be a good idea?

Like in first gear your top speed is about 20 mph (maybe 30 for a smoother gear change) but lots of acceleration and in the second gear you can hit almost 60 but a lot less acceleration

It probably wouldn't be that useful. With more voltage your top speed can be increased with no loss to acceleration. Anyway, I'm not aware of an off-the-shelf gearbox and it would add weight.

would the range suffer if I'm at top speeds for more than 10 minutes? Or is that only on gas karts?

Motors tend to be more efficient just below their top RPM. What parts are you using?

you could build a 4 speed like @karl froma pit bike motor or if you need reverse you could do a 3speed semi auto with reverse and litterally mount the electric motor to the timing chain or flywheel you just have to murder a pitbike/atv motor. and then you could do as fast as you need. and also mount the motor to where the cyl on them would be
