The pike are mean, one bit my uncle... oh what fun.

Hahaha! NEWBIE!

There's a reason there's a jaw spreader in my tackle box! In all seriousness, they've got some wicked teeth, don't they? A few years ago, I bought the jaw spreader- when I showed it to my dad, he laughed at me. He was teasing me, calling me a wimp (good-naturedly, of course). The following week, he tied into a particularly large specimen. He was really having a tough time getting the hook out without bodily injury and I popped in the spreader. He didn't laugh at me anymore!

Eric- I do wish to preserve the wildlife. I will keep the occasional one for eating, but I'm very picky. If they're too small, I will let them go so they can grow and reproduce. If they're quite large, I let 'em go too. Sometimes the meat's not that great, sometimes it's a potential contamination issue, and frankly sometimes it's, "Well big fella, you've made it this far. Swim on!"

Fowler- you do have some pretty bizarre creatures as far as I'm concerned. Platypus? Seriously?:roflol:

Jaw spreader? thats different, none of us had one. If you grab em by the eye socket they open up, or if you get under the gills, not too far they got teeth crammed in there too!

We caught a few fish. Yes, all those fish were put to good use...

The three species we caught (and fished for) were Walleye, Pike, and Bass. We used lots of different baits, all the way from worms to spoons, spinners, and plugs. That particular fish I believe was caught using a yellow on red weedless Dardevle with a red feather tail. Most of the other Pike were caught on a selection of plugs (crankbaits).

I did get a couple of small Walleye, but nothing to write home about. We had a couple of weather fronts come through on the days we were going for Walleye and for the most part they all went deep and wouldn't strike at anything. I did get two on a black on silver Cordell Wally Demon.

My cousin and uncle got a few 16in walleye. They cought them on spoons, but my uncle had caught some on a yellow jig. My other uncle was using some sort of diving rapala minnow thing troling and caught some. Then some 26in or so pike ruined his fun and snapped the leader... "That stinkin pig!" I was with him, so funny.

Them walleye are better tasting than the pike, if I go up again next year I want to try and catch some.
