The pike are mean, one bit my uncle... oh what fun.
Hahaha! NEWBIE!
There's a reason there's a jaw spreader in my tackle box! In all seriousness, they've got some wicked teeth, don't they? A few years ago, I bought the jaw spreader- when I showed it to my dad, he laughed at me. He was teasing me, calling me a wimp (good-naturedly, of course). The following week, he tied into a particularly large specimen. He was really having a tough time getting the hook out without bodily injury and I popped in the spreader. He didn't laugh at me anymore!
Eric- I do wish to preserve the wildlife. I will keep the occasional one for eating, but I'm very picky. If they're too small, I will let them go so they can grow and reproduce. If they're quite large, I let 'em go too. Sometimes the meat's not that great, sometimes it's a potential contamination issue, and frankly sometimes it's, "Well big fella, you've made it this far. Swim on!"
Fowler- you
do have some pretty bizarre creatures as far as I'm concerned. Platypus? Seriously?
