Well, folks, it's been a long time coming. After working my tail off all summer long, including alternate weekends, the time has come!

I'm goin' fishing!!!! Wooooohoooooo!

My dad and I are driving 7 hours north into God's country for a week of r and r. No wives, no kids, no dogs, no work, no worries! The nearest grocery store to the place is 160km (100 miles). My phone may not even work up there. Bummer!

For those with some Ontario geography, it's midway between Sudbury and Timmins. This is going to be awesome! I just gotta get thru work today, and we're outta here!

Try not to let the place go to shambles while I'm gone okay? LOL

yeah 2 things to take when camping, first aid kit, and shotgun. The first aid kit is obvious why. And the shotgun..... well you never know. lol.

We live haft an hour drive from lake erie and we have a boat. Perch are tasty.

You going to a lake? What lake? Recently went up there, last week of august... good fishin, pike... lost 3 lures...

I'm Baaaaaaaack!!!!

Aw, man- I needed that! Had a helluva good time, saw some great scenery and wildlife, caught some awesome fish, slept like a rock!

For those of you in "foreign" regions- In the pic that I'm wearing a Bass Pro baseball cap- that's a Smallmouth Bass. It measured 18 1/4" (46.5cm) and is a very healthy size for that species in this region. I did not have a functional scale to weigh it with.

In the other pic (Tilley hat and raincoat)- that's a Northern Pike. It is not a particularly large specimen, but a good one nonetheless. I didn't bother measuring it, but is around 30" (76cm).

The fish up there were very healthy and lively, with excellent colour and markings. I released all fish live and in good condition, I had 'em out of the water long enough to remove the hook and snap a quick pic...

The pike I had up there was pretty good tasting! Only got to bring back 6 though, biggest we caught was 26 1/2in, most were in the 20-25in range.

When my mom was little her dad would take 9 kids up there, they seemed to catch bigger fish, 30in was small and thrown back... somewhere around there anyways.

What lake did you go to?

Actually- In the first pic, I'm wearing a "Bass Pro Shops" ballcap- that's an American institution! Only within the last few years have they started opening up here in Canada. Last I checked, we only had one in Toronto, and I think one somewhere in Quebec.

BM800- I went up into Northern Ontario. A little speck on the map called Shining Tree- which basically consisted of a signpost on the side of the highway...

I'm not sure. I'm not very familiar with the geography up there. I live about 45 mins north of Toronto. I have a trailer in Parry Sound, which is another 2 hours north. From there, it was about 4 1/2 hours further north. Geographically, it's halfway between Sudbury and Timmins, and then another 30-40 miles east of that mid-way point.

Beautiful country up there. So far from noise, traffic, and loogans.

Yeah- wow! I just did the same homework, and I think the two lakes are only about 30 miles or so apart! Small planet, eh?

I think we stayed in Parry Sound on our way back, my cousin has a cottage thing somewheres up there.

Now im gonna have to find out just where we were...

Yes, it is nice up there, except for the loons its dead silent at night. Or occasional wolf. Good times...

Sorry for jumping on this thread, but you seem like a man who respects nature. I'm a rec major studying up on the hurtin' our wildlife is taking, my wife and I love to go camping/hiking/fishing/etc. Just want to say thanks for respecting the wildlife. It's good stuff.

It has not gone unnoticed by me that the fishing prospects (sizes and numbers) have gone down quite significantly over the years. I love fishing, and have since I was a kid. If I'm going to eat it, I'll kill it, and if I kill it, I will eat it- but I'm not going to just start wasting the fish for the sake of doing it.

And don't be "sorry" for jumping in- I appreciate the comments.

And Fowler- I figured some of our more "remote" members might like a look at a Pike. Just the same as you guys have some wildlife that looks pretty freaky to me!
