Ok, rope is on its way. It was a special order at 1200' so its going to be a week at least. The rope Im using is Amsteel-blue. Its 7/64th of an inch and its average breaking strength is 1600lbs. Its weight is 0.3lb per foot and it floats. Ordered from Seattle Marine as they were the cheapest. Getting excited now as this was the last piece to the puzzle. :bannana:

Ok folks, finally this thing is done. Welding was completed on this past Saturday after, well you can see in the posts.. :censored: This thing works perfectly. I didn't have to tweak it, I didn't mod the motor. It just works. After beak-in and winding the rope we headed down to my buddys place, who lives on a lake. We were doing dock starts (sitting on a dock) and got in about 8 runs a piece between my friend and I in about a 4 hour period. That steel hub is working great btw, even if it is warped. From what I've seen on this site most of you could complete a build like this very easily. Pics are included, any questions, ask away. :sifone:

mead hall, nice build.

how does one get all of that rope unwound so that the skier/wakeboarder can be in the middle of the lake when the winch starts pullin?

also, does your buddy stay on shore to control it while it pulls you, or is it controlled some other way?

do you just swim to the middle of the lake with it?
prolly a dum qweschun, but i just dont know...

sounds like a blast...

Thanks!!

You just walk the rope out. Grab the handle and pull.

Yep, he/she is the driver.

Now with a CC you could probably swim the rope out. With the TAV its very hard to pull the rope. If someone pulled it standing in front of you and got the slack going then you could swim it out. We were talking about using a friends canoe to get a longer run than the shore line we've been working with. I have 1200ft of rope.
sounds like a blast...
**** skippy!!

Haha! Thanks man, I kept hitting snags. I have learned a lot though and will plan better in the future. Hopefully I can resolve the issue with my TAV.

you could have the tav attached to a centrifugal clutch instead of a sprocket that way you could pull the rope out easily

How would you go about that?

You would have to run your Drive clutch on a jackshaft, and run your centrifigal clutch from the engine to the TAV.
I'm not sure how well it would work that way. Seems to me like it would just take longer for the belt to grab.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing, then you would have to hit 2200 rpm or so for the CC to kick in, and another 2200 from that to get the tav to grab.

Billet doesn't mean aluminium. A 'billet' is just a piece of metal. You can get billet steel stuff, billet aluminium stuff, billet magnesium stuff, etc.

The winch looks awesome btw.
