I've cut my own keyways as has Mr. Kibble. Just takes patience and a steady hand with a Dremel.
Machine shop wanted $250.

The other thing is the clutch I've got doesn't have grub screws, so when the time comes to put it on, what stops it falling off again?

Bolts up with threaded hole in crankshaft. Hence the built in key.

Not necessarily. I have shafts that are threaded, others are not.

Thats not my engine, it's just a similar picture I found on the internet to illustrate a woodruff key.

Man, if the shaft is anything close to that first pic posted, It looks like it'll be next to impos to get a clutch on there without some funky setup.

I'd just measure the smallest part of the taper. If its 5/8 or a bit larger then good. Start engine and get a angle grinder and take the taper right down to a 5/8 shaft. Cut a keyway and there you go. Bit crude but I have seen it done.

LOL GHETTO LATHE!, make sure its bolted down good and solid. DOnt need an angle grinder, a hand file will do or a sanding block, just take a lil bit at a time off.

Lol yeah..You make it sound like "Not everone has a angle grinder" Most people involved with this kind of stuff would own one. Plus even if you didnt have one you can get one for like $25.
