Why use a modified engine?

Grrrrr Fine I'll put my dragster engine on my kart! I'll beat you by 1/2 track or more! I cant wait to get Dyno sheet's and 1/8 mile ET's and MPH and shove it in your face! Like come on I'm gona beat you with a 15-18 HP clone! Ok enough argueing as long as your having fun out there then thats ALL that matter's. If it goes 35-40 MPH and makes lots of noise i'm happy XD

it's just plain fun and it entertains me. when i'm angry i take my anger out on making engines and playing sports instead of taking it out on my family. i really enjoy engine building.

Yeah me too. Most of my engine's are high performance racing engine's but sometimes I work on snowblowers and lawnmower's. DAANNNGGG why did I throw out that Lawn Boy I had!!!

4 cycle engines are great on most applications.
Not so great on chainsaws, outboard motors, weed eaters/whackers, karts, backpack blowers, etc.
1st mass produced karts used 2 cycle mower engines. May have been West Bend which is the currently manufactured US820. Little changed in 40 years.

Ok thx for explaining that Russ. Now I see what you mean instead of just arguiing. It's the simplicity and light weight and manuverability which makes 2 cycles great. No oil starvation when tilted in a chain saw/trimmer application.

Yeah It's been talked about quite a bit around here. I wish it could happen somday. I do live pretty close to New York. I bet I can beat most of your kart's in idle in my dragster. It'l do around 40-45 MPH in idle.XD XD lol.

Anything as heavily ($$$) modified as Tyler's Dragster motor would whomp it, just from a superior design to start with. Flatheads are on one of the lowest levels of the 4-stroke evolutionary chain. Face it, Tyler.... if any of the members here had your budget that your parents make possible for you to blow on a single project (not having to pay for such things as food, shelter, taxes, utilities each month) you'd be sitting well back behind, thinking of more "Oh yeah?!?!?...." comments to come up with. Also, it isn't a race if your running a jr dragster against a 5 hp cart, is it? A true RACE is vehicles of equal specifications. Now i bet a 5 hp cart would beat your dragster on a oval track, wouldn't it?

Plus if any of you know anything about power to weight ratio any jr dragster running 7.60's in the 1/8 mile beat's most of the semi pro full size V8 car's at my track! Modelenginneer what size are those carb's? And this engine isnt modified. It's ment for full blown drag racing!

My apologies for the negative comments, but I am more impressed with your Trike/Lawnchair project because it's truly a grass-roots nuts & bolts effort.
Anyone can build a Jr Class Dragster if the $$$ are a available.

Modify a lawnchair to haul butt down the street?
Take a long-discontinued and discarded lawnmower motor and haul *** with it?
Genetically splice ATC's & motorcycles together?
......That stuff gets my WOW vote.
Why do we modify motors? Because no one makes an engine that's perfect for whatever we're intending to do with it.

It's alright...Getting used to it. Not anyone can make a Junior Dragster. Any of your kart's can be concidered "Junior Open" where anything goes. But Junior dragster's have to be certified and EVERY part is checked VERY stricly.
