I think on the older motors (flattys) B/S and Tec were close. Nothing beats the butt simplicity of a B/S flatty, and the tec carbs required a bit more maintenance than something like a B/S VacuJet. The new motors? I have 1 newer Tec OHV motor, and I'm not too impressed with it.

Tyler.... Obviously you're familiar with the racing of the B/S 5hp Flattys...... Do they do the same thing for Tecumsehs, or 8hp B/S motors? (Even the 80000 series 3hp motors would be a kick to mess with) Or are people with those motors pretty much out on their own? Maybe you can start a thread on what's being officially raced and what they're getting from these motors.

Yeah all of the new Tecumsea's I have delt with always have a lubrication probelem no matter what oil or weight is used. We have a brand new 6.5 tec on a lawnmower that is only a year old and it knocks on startup and smokes you out and, the exaust and intake valve have about 1/16+ slop in them. Personally I like the briggs style engines better. And normally a blockzilla block 1,2,3 and I have owned every single one of them will be based off of a briggs 5 block. Briggs made a "re-cast" from something like a 5 hp tiler and made a blockzilla block. Simmilar to the mini modified alcohol pulling tractor's. They all run Kohler "re-casts" which have no fins and Have a thicker wall and are bored out to around 4".

ARC makes a finned 8hp flywheel and rod for the vert shaft motors(no dipper), if you ask nice they might make you a dipper/cap. Stock cam could be ground, Im sure Wiseco makes a dirt bike piston that fits.

I have a REALLY old tec 3.5hp 2-stroke and it has cast iron block and cylinder. I have removed the governor and it will rev high all day without exploding.
It also came with an adjustable mixture carb.

However, I agree that new tecs suck.
