From the shaft or from the flywheel??? You need to be specific about this kinda stuff.

Counter clockwise from the drive shaft. :)

Thanks again everyone for all their input. What a cool site and helpful group of people, I just joined today and am really glad I did!

Also... their is another wheelbarrow soap box car on this page about half way down:

haha cool idea. BTW are you going to use a clutch or Torque Converter?

I'm not sure yet... The clutches look like they'd do the trick, but this is going to be my son's go kart and he'll use it only on the road, never off road, so I still need to do some more reading if just using a clutch will be ok.

I'm all for recommendations... :)

Additionally, I'm hoping to use a real tall tire (say 20") for the rear to give it an old school front engine dragster look. I did see there is a speed calculator on the sire, so I've got to research that a bit as well.

20" on the axel or the steering? If street only clutch will be fine and much cheaper (40 bucks)

I was thinking 20" high rear wheels and maybe 10 " for the front. Although I think it would look cool (to me) I don't know that it would really handle all that well when it turning fast. I'd like him to be able to slide it a little through the turns.

you are mounting your engine in the rear correct? And do u want more burnout power, torque, and acceleration or do u want top speed?

Top speed or acceleration
acceleration giver you the ability to burn out and gives you more torque

ok go with 12 on the clutch (standard clutch)
and 76 on the axel

The tires may be a bit big though
I'd do 13x6.00-6 in the rear and 4.10-3.50-5 in the front
It should work good and if you get slicks (great for burnouts) it will look like a hot rod too!

Thanks, when you talk about the 12 on the clutch and 76 on the axle you're talking about the teeth right? Is a chain better than a belt? Seems like the odds of slipping are less when using a chain.

I am talking about teeth and i prefer chain as they do not slip and if they snap it takes a link to fix it versus a whole new belt.
