Wheel barrow body + 6.5HP engine

Hi All,

Question: Is it possible to mount the rear axle in FRONT of the engine? I don't know that it matters but the engine is a counterclockwise drive. My thought is that I'm going to turn the wheel barrow body around backwards and the rear axle will sit in between the wheel barrow and engine.

Are you sure its counter clockwise? thst seems a bit odd to me, but it should work, looks like you will need quiet a bit of clearence for the engine to fit on an axel underneath it. just out of curiosity are you tryin to make a cart out of this or a motorized wheel barrel?

According to the directions/manual it says, Direction: counterclockwise. I was surprised too. It is the engine that Harbor Freight sells for $119.

Trying to make a go-kart. I haven't designed/built the frame yet, but my plan was to put the axle directly in front of the engine, not underneath it.

as you are looking at the motor, pto side, to go forward it would have to turn counter. axle location not really an issue unless chassis is already made. my manco frame has the dead axle in front of the motor. when i first started reading this post, i thought you were gonna make a mini mud duck. kart/boat. (. that would be cool, but the hard part is hooking up the pto for the prop.

In the picture I have the engine backwards - so when the crank "supposedly" turns counterclockwise it will propel it forward I thought it being counterclockwise was really weird also... but that is what the manual says. I haven't started it yet, but definitely will before I build the frame, etc.

My concern is that I've never seen the rear axle in front of the engine on any go karts, so wondering what it will do to performance. I also plan on drilling some lightening holes in the holes to body to reduce weight.

That's your output shaft/clutch side.

I believe he means the shaft out put side or the side you would install the clutch. When u pull the rope on the starter the shaft you install the clutch on should turn one of two ways :clockwise or counter clockwise. I would not recommend a wheel barrel for the frame though i don't see how it would work correctly seems like it would flip if you turned it sharp.

pto is the side the clutch or other drive goes on. my hf, my honda both turn counter. that is if you have the cylinder head facing back, you are at the c/h, the top of the shaft will turn away from you.

So looking at it from the crankshaft side, got it thanks! The wheel barrow idea came from seeing other people use it for a soap box derby - no engine just roll it downhill. Plus I scored the wheel barrow tub for only $20. In order to make it safe enough (for a go-kart), I'm going to put holes in it to reduce weight, think of like the look on an old hotrod dropped I beam and then also have the wheel barrow only sit a few inches off the ground, like maybe 3 inches. The coke cans are 5 inches in the pic.

ALL our engines run counterclockwise as viewed from the shaft side. This is not abnormal. As far as axle location, sure- put it where you want as long as you have room!

Thanks all, main concern was axle location and looks like not an issue. I'll post of pics (or more likely more questions) as I get into this.

Not just clones, almost all small 4 strokes turn counter clockwise. That's the reason that most one wheel drive carts have the engine on the left. What kind of engines do you have?

It depends on the way you look at it if you look at it from the flywheel it goes clockwise when you look at it from the crank shaft it goes counter i always look at it from the flywheel side. so if the engine is in the back of the kart you will be good the way it shows in the picture.
