What type of pictures do you like?

Hello guys,

There are 3 options for pictures you can post on this forum. (according to me)

1. Upload to a website like photobucket.com or something similar. Get the link and post in your thread. Pictures won't be scaled.

2. Attach pictures in the attachment. They appear as small pictures under the post that they have been added. If people click them, they'll get a bigger picture.

3. Upload the pictures to you album on this forum and link people to your album.

I, personally, would go for 1. - You don't have the enscale the pictures by clicking on them like in method 2 and you don't have to click links to the album.

I like option 2. Option 1 means you need a photobucket account, and you have these huge images tht need to be downloaded. If you have a slow connection, this can sometimes be annoying. I can also look at all the pictures that were uploaded, and only open/view the ones I think are interesting

Option 3 doesn't appeal to me either. If you are going to post pics of a project, then do it in the project thread. An album (to me) is for completed project which showcases some of the build pics. The project log created for the build will have most of the same pics in it as well.

I feel that option 2 is good because it keeps the topic page short so your not scrolling forever and gives you the option of viewing larger.

Option 1 is also good because i do a bunch of pics from my phone and ipad the upload to photobucket.
I use my desktop so rare now.

i always upload my pictures to my Google account. then i can share them with whoever i want. if i choose to share the whole album i can or if i choose to share just individual pictures i can. plus i like how simple the editing software is that Google has for editing photo's.

I prefer thumbnail pictures for 2 reasons.

1) keeps posts short and compact.
2) i can tAke them right off the camera and not worry about Uploading to the computer and taking up space.

I'm a fan of option #2. Not everyone (including myself) has good, reliable highspeed service. With everything thumbnailed, it reduces page load times and I can select what I want to see in detail.

I'm also a fan of option 2. Option 3 is good too but, for threads, you need to be specific & if people have to go hunting for pics in an album for pics, I'm not sure I'd bother

if you have a you tube account you most likely have a Google account that you didn't even know about. if i was post a link to the album everyone could see it just like this

lately i have been keeping an eye on how much bandwidth is used and i haven't even been using 15gb per month with how many pictures and stuff i upload and download to my Google account and forums.

i prefer clickable thumbnails inside the post, because it makes for the most comfortable viewing of the forum & it also makes for a consistant format which demonstrates solidarity & pride amongst the forum's members.

is it really such a hardship to give an inch or two once in a while to the DIY folks who are giving you something for free? when someone places a HUGE image from an outside host in their post, it ticks me off...you aren't willing to take a few minutes to compose a smooth post, so you force me to go scrolling all over the place to read your thread? i think not.

I agree. When I have to scroll from side to side to see pics I shut down too.

If you are using your mobile phone, things get even worse.

i use the photobucket option

i rescale my pictures to 640 x 480 and try to compress them as much as i can without chunking them up... current trundle kart pics are under 90KB...

some would prefer i dont post them at all if i dont thumbnail them?

using photobucket also allows me to quickly delete them all when the moderators dont see things my way

ever notice what a thread looks like after someone deletes (or otherwise loses) a remote image gallery? to me, it looks like a slap in the face.

a forum, by definition, is a community effort & permanent knowledgebase, and it's my experience that the individuals who shine the most brightly (and receive the most effective help) are those who compose the nicest posts within the parameters of the community.

if a (free) forum takes the time to integrate (free) image hosting, and pay for the (not free) bandwidth, then using it is a simple matter of courtesy and good manners.

and for anyone not aware...the "manage attachments" window has a place for pasting an image's URL from places such as photobucket or picasaweb...below is (1) a random example taken from 'wolfie's picasaweb gallery, and (2) a random photobucket image i found on DIYGK...now, should either of those remote galleries go belly-up or be deleted, you won't be stuck looking at a red X instead of the image.

well if that dont beat all, considering i did delete the pictures from photobucket today and marked the album private. well i'll ask now that robertdjung undo or delete my image from this website. i guess any photobucket using poster should expect the same from this place then?

you seem to have lost sight of the fact that people who post images of their projects are not compensated for it in any way, and i do reserve the right to take my ball when i go home

delete the threads with the deleted pictures if you like, but steal my photos?

clearly, i have no idea why you're hostile towards DIYGK, and it's none of my business...nor do i care. but here's my take on the matter, after 20 years of forum usage at all levels.

your options, when it comes to public forums, is to join or NOT join, post or NOT post.

you joined and you posted...and noone forced you to.

apparently, what you've lost sight of is that this is someone else's house.

i'm just a member here, and like you i clicked "i agree" before joining or posting. the way i read it, and remember this is with 20 years of forum experience under my belt, staff may delete "your" image from my post if they want to, but they do NOT have to.

imo, of course.
