i just use the cheapest 5 or 10w30 and have never had a problem. thats with snowblowers gokarts mini bikes etc. and i run them in straigh sand, i just check oil before each days ride and change it in the spring and middle of summer thats the key is to keep it fresh. I killed a briggs 5 hp flathead because we never changed to oil, ive changed the oil in my go kart in the last year ive had it more times than i did all the times with that mini bike in 5 years.

I dont know for sure, but I think, somewhere it may have gotten signals crossed with motors with clutch's (like ATV or Motor Cycles) if the motor oil from the engine is also used in the clutch, detergent wears the clutch plates faster :) dont yell at me, I just think that might be where the two got crossed

i use Mobil 1 10w-30. i say if the Crovette racing team can use it i can too. its best for when you have high performance parts on your small engine. good for engines withOUT governor, and stronger valve springs.

I've heard the opposite... as you could have seen for my other post. However, although it is a good oil (cleans the engine up great!) they become thinner everytime, as many witnesses claim.

One car even ran his car dry on Mobil 1, although he knew that Mobil1 seemed to evaporate faster on this model of a car.

Mobil 1 and Pennzoil Platinum are both great oils, as with other oils.

my brother and i had a push type lawnmower 3hp b&s that had original oil from 1972 in it, the mower died in 1996, only needed plugs and ignition wo to continue working
other than that, almost all small engines request 30w
unless you race for prizes, dont blow cash on $10 bottles of Royal Purple
if you have an un modified b&s, good luck killing it

Remember that multi-grade oils will have to have levels checked more often than single grades. The wider the spread...the worse it becomes.
Air cooled engines also coke up faster with these oils. Stick with single grades unless manual says otherwise.
