What type of axle should I have?

I have searched everywhere I can think and haven't seen any examples of an axle like this where it goes through the tube.
I'm new to go karts but have some backyard mechanic experience.
I got this frame for free and it had no axle.
Also if anyone could tell me where online I could buy parts for this style axle.

You're in exactly the same situation I was when I bought my first kart.

Axles that spin need bearings, which are normally just two mounts on the frame. A lot of cheaper, mostly-road karts use 1 wheel drive, where the sprocket is mounted to one back wheel, and only that wheel spins.

You have a fixed axle setup. What you need to do is weld two bolt heads onto that pipe and put wheels with bearings in them on the bolt shafts.

I'll let the other members throw out some info...

You can also mount a live axle on at this point. Your choice

That is meant to have a live axle in it.
It is just an uncommon setup.

The "Heavy" kart I worked on for OrangeKrate's mini series was exactly like that. Bearings press into the flanged ends of that tube,a keyed alxe with threaded ends holds keyed rims in place with a double hub on the drive side.

We need a measurement of that tube...plus the ID for the bearings and we can help advise you!

The tube is 30 inches from end to end but I don't have any bearings with it.
The axle was removed years ago by who knows who so basically what's in the picture is all I have.

Now....I didn't ask you if you had bearings...but for the ID of the tube they press into...(so we can match bearings, axle, hubs and wheels to each other...and what you have. Also what engine and clutch tooth count or CVT...

I'm not sure what you mean when you say the ID of the tube.
I plan to buy a predator 212cc and that's as much as I know so far.

Ok then the ID of the tube would be 42mm.

42mm is about 1 3/8" inch. This is a very typical bearing OD.
So if that is the flared part of your tube. Can you get a measurement of the ID of the main LONG section of tube.

To keep the Axle off the inner pipe walls I would guess 3/4" axle. and there should be bearings available in that size.

Just trying to get the most accurate measurement I could with a speed square.

Its all good. Probably a smart idea with those tiny measurements. I used google to convert.
Unfortunatley, I do not know too much about that Kart. I am just familiar with typical bearing sizes.

The measurements in mm threw me. Now the back axle would be set up just like the "thug kart"....but yours was also set up with a jackshaft.

The engine mounts in the center...and a jackshaft mounts on the left plate. It's not 100%necessary to have a jackshaft...(or run a TC) ...but I'll work a lot better with a TC.

one final thing before we give you a parts list....what is the height of the front tires? Are they 145/70-6 tires? Would you like the rear tires to match the front?

The tires on the front I'm guessing are just some wheelbarrow tires someone threw on but the size is 4.00x6.
I would like a more low profile street tire that matches the rear.
