I have a GX 160 5.5 Honda clone. I have the OEM sparkplug in it. I want to use an aftermarket plug but I'm unsure of what brand to use.

I want a high performance plug like an E3 or NGK but want to see what you guys use.

Stock clone takes a NGK BP6ES. The Champion equivalent is N9YC. Drop it down to an N7YC. If you're not experiencing any ignition problems, then don't change anything. No "special" plug gives more power.

Well my dad's 6.5 clone had the cheap chinese plug literly fall apart. I dont want that to happen to my built up clone. So just run a NGK BP6ES?

My personal choice has always been Champion, but yeah, stick with stock spec plug.
Chances are, you will have no issues such as knocking or pinging. If you do, go to the next colder plug.
With Champion, the lower the number-the colder the plug. I'm not sure how NGK's numbering system works. Could be just the opposite of Champion.

Ok, Will do. Thanks Russ. I'm kind of surprised you prefer Champion rather than NGK. I have always thought of NGK as realy good plugs. I never thought much of champion.

NGK is backwards IIRC, they supposedly make a higher quality plug. I always liked the platinum tipped plugs(dunno who makes em), cant foul one.

We run a platinum plug in my dragster. Awsome plug. You'd think they would foul easier because of the needle like electrode. In my dragster we run a NGK platinum BR7HIX.

I had bad luck with NGK the one time I used one. Porcelain seal broke and dropped center electrode into combustion chamber.
Went through piston crown and sent a wrist pin needle bearing between exhaust port and piston. Nasty business. I never saw an engine self destruct like that. Plug had less than 2.5 hours on it and was the right color.

Wow. That must be an extremely rare case. I've never had it happen to me nor have I heard it happen until now. I actuallty prefer NGK's. I guess you just got one of the few duds.

Yeah you definitely got one with a defect. All i run is NGK's. Although today i changed out the stock plugs on the Yamaha 570 sled with some Bosch Platinum dual tip plugs and that made a MAJOR difference. Easier starting, much better acceleration, and it doesn't knock anymore. They were only 3 dollars at Walmart. In my dirtbikes i need a exact specification plug or they wont run right at all. High strung 2 strokes are very touchy.
