What should I buy first?

I only get like $20 a week from chores around the house, so what order should I buy these in?

A: torque converter; $80
B: live axle conversion; $120
C: predator 212; $120
D: harbor freight stick welder; $100
E: new tires; $80

Currently I have a 5hp briggs engine with a new clutch (The guy I bought it from just installed it) and some pretty well worn tires.

I'm currently trying to get a job for the summer so I can get more money, but being 15 makes it hard.

No frame/chassis?

Depends on what your goals are, frankly, and what you want to assemble.

Predator 212cc engines are not $120, by the way. Only a chump pays list price. Get thee a $99 coupon, dear friend. :D

You don't really need a physical coupon, just quote the coupon code at the register and get your discount.
This is the current coupon, stole it off the website just now...

Get a push mower, start knocking on doors. Offer to mow lawns for $20. I am sure you can make at least $100 in a weekend.

Get a job 20 bux won't work. I'm 15 been working since I could walk. Don't know what your problem is. Maybe a job after school?

I have a working go kart with all the basics on it, Im just wondering what I should replace first.

Also, this really nice lady that manages the place that I volunteer at is going to try to get me a job as a bus boy at a local restaurant, so maybe that will work out.

Put the Briggs on it and start karting. The summer's ticking by. That one's a no-brainer and free of charge.

Im also gonna grab a wire wheel or flap disc from HF and clean up the sheet metal

Does the engine run? Keep it.
Does the clutch work ok? Then keep it.

Those front tires look a little thin. I might start there.

Young zoomy, be happy with what you have, stay away from women, keep working, and get a set of tires when you get the cash. You have a nice, usable ride there. I know adults with cars that aren't that nice. And, you volunteer. God Bless you, young man, you're on the right track.

He's got everything he needs. I'd definitely 'massage' the Briggs for best available power or add a straight (or curved) header. Maybe shave the cylinder head or eliminate the head gasket to increase compression...

Interesting set of chains, sprockets and jackshaft. I guess at one time this kart had a Torq-A-Verter?

Where do you plan to ride--what kind of terrain?

Flat off-road; my friend is making a track so that 3 of us can race each other.

Also, this never had a torque-a-verter, but its a real pain to set up the torque converter. The jackshaft is 3/4, which means that I have to buy the driver and the driven separately (there are no 3/4" to 3/4" torque converter kits).

You may be able to get by on just a clutch, and go to just one chain.

Those guys in professional kart racing use clutches. No fancy, belt-whirring sewing machine contraptions on a race kart. Even the guys on flat dirt tracks use simple centrifugal clutches. Torq-A-Verters (factory name, there) were developed for the consumer market and to provide off road mobility on rough terrain.

Do you have the air filter assembly for that engine?
