its from a 1200 PWC but the only thing i used was the cases. the crank cylinders and pistons are from a 800 sled. you just add a third cylinder to make it the 1200. If you have some time on your hands heres a thread on how to build em.

Kaptain. this is a concern of mine to with the kart being so small. this is what im wroking with. Ive already taken it down to just the frame and added some square tube to make it stronger and straighten it out. it had a good bow to it. probably gonna mount the rear axel today.

gonna be pretty scary with a sled engine on it huh?

My frame is about that size, if i had the money for an extra sled engine i would definitely throw one in there. What size you thinking? i'd say a 340 would be plenty, but im sure a 440 would be easier to find. You will probably have to extend the frame to fit the jackshaft and and pipes in there.

Thats pretty awsome by the way, but i doubt i'll ever build an engine like that, i dont have the money for that.

yea the 1200 cost 8G just for the engine..probably wouldnt do it again. you can buy em now for about 3-4G done.

im looking at a 583 liquid cooled twin tomorrow. ive looked at a geo metro and the raidator is the right size to keep it cooled. I would like a air cooled but my buddy wants 200 bucks for this 583 and thats with carbs pipe electronics......everything but the primary clutch i think. he buys wrecked sleds and parts em out. ive been waiting for a smaller fan cooled but he hasnt come across one.

I was thinkin about mounting the rear axel at the tail of the frame now and the engine in front of it then building a rear cage bumper behind it all. not sure though, kinda spooky doin this for the first time.

yea, you really dont see a whole lot of fan cooled sleds anymore, and i just wouldnt trust an old free air in the summer. I actually have a bombardier 440 fan sitting in my woods, but its been sitting there for 10 years, needs a top end maybe new crank bearings too. I'm almost considering rebuilding it for my kart.

How much is the 583 your looking at tomorrow? It is a bit overkill for a yard kart, but if you geared it right and went easy on the throttle it wouldnt be too uncontrollable.

200 bucks. and i think the cooling unit from the junk yard will be under 50 bucks. if i stick to the gearing i started with top speed is under 60 still and i could gear it down more too

$200 isnt that bad, is that with pipes, carbs, and primary? I think 60 is a good speed to aim for, that way you can keep a good steady speed without redlining it.

You could easily take an electric fan and mount it so it blows air onto the engine. That is how my Rancher 350 is setup. It has a remote oil cooler with a fan that only periodically kicks on. When I'm idling around moving cattle it barely heats up at all. Just an idea.

if it fits, do it. air cooled will work great. need i say motorcycles? or perhaps lawnmowers? I would like to know who started the rumor that because its made for the winter (tracked&skis) that it wont run in the summer. its an ENGINE! jeez with that mentality I'm surprised no one has said oh shoot, you cant run a lawn mower in the winter, it'll freeze!

im gonna use the 8hp just to get this thing back together now. the reason im not using the sled engine isnt because people are stupid and thing that it wont run in the summer. ive been on bikes and sleds for 20 years now and know how they work.

thats not a terrible idea, without suspension you could compress your spine with that much power (sled engine) high speed+no suspension+bumps=one of those i really shouldn't have done that moments. i would use it on another build, and incorporate some suspension.
