so i came across a 14hp Kohler cast iron electric start. the thing weighs about 130lbs without puttin a bat. in the kart. Im wanting to build this thing to run 250lb guys around but im starting to wonder if this is gonna be to much weight for the chassis. I'll post up a few pics of it so far this weekend.

Seems a lil heavy. I wound suggest getting either a honda clone which can be picked up for about 150 bucks on ebay, just type in 6.5hp engine and they will come up, a dirt bike engine or a sled engine.

I dont think a 6.5 will be enough power. just realized that a sled engine is between 70-90lbs so this is alot heavier and alot less power. would make more sence to do the sled setup. hmmm.....

i can get a 583 ski doo engine in running order with pipe and everything for 200 bucks. not a fan cooled but why not put a radiator on it if im gonna go big right? get me a small geo metro one with a lil electric fan and im golden. the whole thing will probably weigh less than the 14hp Kohler too.

I've heard sled engines are set up for optimum power in cold weather. will they run worth a crap when its hot in the summer?

Yer they might not handle hot weather to much but they shouldnt be to bad. Its like running a mercedes in australia, the electrics in em stuff up a lot since there not made for 40 degree + days. The hottest they get in europe is like 30 haha. But it should run good as long as they got lots of air flow.

yea the only thing ya would need to do is lean it out a bit. its no different than riding a sled. If you go from 30-40 degree to below zero you should rejet it. the colder the air temps the leaner its gonna run so if a sled engine is setup to run when its about 15 degree out and you run it while its 90 out then its gonna run a bit fat.

I have a sled that i built and im running half of a jetski engine with half of a sled engine in it. it runs very well.

its a 1200. kinda been kickin around a idea on finding a good buggy chassis to put this engine in next year. 240hp and 170flbs of torque.

im gonna get the sled engine tomorrow for this gokart. gonna be way to much for this thing but thats the fun of it right?

nice, i had a 750 i was gonna put in my kart until i got talked out of it, 140hp... My kart is pretty small tho, i think i would have just bent up the frame.

What jetski parts you runnin on it? I've never even seen a jetski up close.

Dang! That's some kinda' crazy-looking two-stroke! The closest thing to that engine that I've seen, here in the Southernmost tip of Texas, is a personal water craft. However, I'm guessing that PWCs don't have that kind of HP.
