I would like to know what this thing with two wires is that is on the bottom of my carb? And does it need to be hooked up or do I need a different carb.

I believe it is an "Anti-Backfire" fuel shut off solenoid. I have a similar module on the carburetor of my 17.5 hp Briggs&Stratton OHV (lawn tractor).

:wai: That is a anti-backfire soleniod. When you turn the key to either run/start it retracts the plunger down so that the main jet gets fuel. When you shut off the equipment the plunger engages (goes up) to shut off the fuel supply to the main jet. As it only shuts off the main jet, and not the fuel supply to the bowl, fuel can still flood or seep into the crankcase if the needle valve/float is not working correctly. Put your hand on the soleniod and have some one turn the key to run, you should hear/feel a click.

I stand corrected.... I just looked it up. Yes it IS an anti - backfire solenoid. My apologies to dsgreene.......
As a kid, to me, it was just a fuel shut off. And I guess I never put much more thought into it than that......
