I just bought this off-road kart for a pretty good price. Runs and drives good has a 18hp Briggs v twin motor on it. Anyone know the make and model of the frame? I’d like to buy some replacement parts if I can find em. Also when I hit bug bumps the frame hits the motor, if I get bigger shocks will it keep that from happening?

Hey man, nice find! Loving the v twin.
I'd say go for stiffer & taller shocks to Help with clearance. It may work, but if it doesn't, you might have to modify the frame a smidge. Sorry I can't be of any help on the Frame. I'd look around but somebody is bound to beat me to it. Lol.

Is that a torque converter I see peaking around the back end? How's takeoff?

It's begging for a longer swingarm. It would be a shame to have that engine and not be able to fully exploit it.

It is a torque converter I. There. Take off is actually pretty great. If I hold full throttle the tires will even spin a little before getting moving. I’m gonna get into it today and see what I can do about he motor problem

DIY remove and extend is the approach I would take. Cut it, extend it. Otherwise build a new one. Longer travel, more room, it'll be like a dream come true.

while a longer swingarm sounds like a good idea..
it wouldn't add any benefits really.

1) the longer swingarm makes it a longer lever for the shocks.. thus the suspensions will get weakened, and that might not exactly add suspension travel at all (maybe even reduce it)

2) Steering geometry is made on the front axle, but in reference to the exact distance of the front axle to the rear one.
So steering might be affected as well.

3) if you stretch the swingarm you might need more bracing in order to keep it stiff enough (especially with an engine that heavy) so you add more and more weight,
UNSUSPENDED weight for that matter.

Yeah, longer swingarm is nice, but there's more to it than just extending two tubes :D

Sure just use a longer and stiffer shock to compensate for the added length.

Any idea on what kind of shocks I should look for? I’m wondering if just getting bigger stiffer shocks will keep it from happening. I only have about 300 into the kart so I don’t mind spending a little to get it perfect.

No clue.

I'd make measuments as to overall length and stroke lengh, and which type of mounting your planning on and just look for something close to what you need.

I had the same problem and I would cut two pieces of pipe and have them welded in there to stop that. Your tires are the only shock you really need. OR just mount some extended rubber bumpers 'frame bumpers' in there like on the rear axles of automobiles. I would go with pipe welded in place and be done with it.

I don’t wanna lose functionality of the rear swing arm. You can definitely tell the difference between a rigid frame and a suspension kart. I’m gonna have to pull my shocks off and find new bigger ones or I’m gonna mod the frame. I’d rather not mess with the frame I don’t want to snap a frame because I’ve been making weak points.

What about modifying the swing arm to give you more height? The rake of the frame will increase but, the front to rear axle length will remain the same, keeping the steering geometry intact...

In the pic below, note how, in the two lower examples, the length is the same but the height is increased; the second example (third drawing) allows you to keep the stock shock mounts...

NB: I was only spitballing on the dimensions...

Cool kart! Hopefully that tq will hold up on that engine. Otherwise a jackshaft is in your future. If it works and the belts last several outings id leave it. Since it doesnt have to haul my 265lbs around it might work lol.

Far as the clearance, being one that likes the easy route when possible I personally would cut out that top black bar, just the width of the area its hitting plus a little, then just refab it back together with it raised.

All this swing arm stuff is entirely too much work. Just imo.

Thanks! I put a new belt on it when I got in and I’ve ridden it maybe 2 hours total and haven’t gone through the belt so I think this 30 series TC is just fine. Took it on some jumps yesterday and managed to get the battery charged now we can install and have the elect start working again.
