Here are a few pictures of my kart getting an engine transplant.
I am installing a Sachs KM24 Wankel Rotary in the kart.

*cough* you might want to check that he was working for NSU not Ford ;)
Anyways..
Speaking about german engineering, allow me to say it this way:

Made note to myself "check for small Wankels to get hold of"

Yes that is the counter balance weight the flywheel is also counter balanced.

I have admiration for rotary engines. Growth among friends that modified this type of engines for racing cars. I would like to have an engine like yours here in P.R. Would cause a lot of sensation because these engines do not exist here in P.R., although the rotary engine is very popular here in race cars for years.

I am a fan of these engines with the proper porting and turbocharging done to them they RIP! they are different indeed you never know you may have some in your vicinty and not even know it.They were used as Water Pump Engines,Generators,Outboard Boat Motors,Sail Boat Motors,etc!

Wow this is nice. I just read the whole thread. You said that the design was yours? Did you draw it on paper or in a GFX program? This is very cool and i love it. Do you happen to still have the plans? What kinda milage do you get?

I designed this kart in my head as a dare to some of my younger employees to see what they would come up with and I made it as you can see out of square tubing so it would be easy to build because a lot of them do not have round tubing notching tools so this kart is cut and butt I wanted the rear axle bearings as close to the wheels as possible to keep the axle over hang to a minimum so the frame rails are 5 degrees each making the overall shape 10 degrees I machined aluminum sleeves for the rear axle that go between the wheel and rear bearing so the axle would not shift under a side load and then I have angle iron welded to the frame rail to keep the rear wheel bearings from moving on the frame rail inside the frame rails both the wheel bearings and the engine mounts I have machined bushings and installed them inside the frame and welded them in the frame so the bolts would not crush the frame rails the front end spindles have bearings in them and I machined out the wheels to accept 3/4 inch bearings so I would have a 3/4 diameter front axle so this kart is made for rough service in the desert I probably over built it but I don't want it to break with me in it I weigh 240 lbs that is why I made it with double frame rails and the engines I intend to use can produce upwards of 50 hp or more and I have them. I payed close attention to the center of gravity on the kart I left the butt ends of the frame rails open so I can slide nerfing bumpers in the frame an replace them as needed the steering bar is made out of an old curling bar that I had kind of a theme for the kart because I am into body building.

My bad, I was misinformed; I suppose I should do a little research next time :oops:

The story I heard was that Ford, under the guidance of Dr Wankel, tried to develop a 6 rotor Wankel engine without success. No truth in that either; the wankel mustang was actually modified by Curtiss-Wright, a failing aircraft manufacturer which tried to, unsuccessfully, branch out in the mid 60s

I know that sound all too well. Until recently, Pac Performance was literally 3 streets away from my house (I live in an area zoned semi industrial); on a quiet night, we could hear the rotary's screaming...

Yeah they have a sound of their own once you have heard one you know what it is I am sure I will be wearing ear plugs with this Rotary I am making an opened exhaust for it.:lolgoku:
