Sand blaster for $10? Is that those weird pistol grip ones that hold like 12 oz of sand?

I got one of those from Princess Auto for like $15 its a pain in the *** to refill, but I cranked the compressor past what the gun is rated for it I'll be ****ed if it didn't get the rust off my car.

The recommended psi on the box just wasn't cutting it for me so i cranked up the compressor to about double i think, and it did a pretty good job. I was a really bad rust spot on my rear wheel well that had bubbled the paint and it managed to get it all off. It should be more than fine for karts.

You will have to re-fill it alot. We started off with a 5 gallon pressure blaster that was onsale for I think $140 and that used ALOT of sand and that didnt cut it for us. So we returned it and looked around at princess auto and we saw a realy nice 10 gallon with a air dryer and it was on wheels for like $30 more so we bought it. Regular price on that 10 gallon was about $310.

Yeah its fine for tiny jobs like removing some small rust areas but nothing big enough to have to put 10-15 pounds of sand through it.

I just went to HF this morning, picked up a 120 MIG fluxcore welder and one of their benchtop benders. Total damage was less than $160.

Only problem now is, I have to clean off my benchtop so I can figure out where to mount this sucker. Right now, I've got a goped, two pocketbikes, and a ton of tools and other assorted odds and ends all over it .....

Oh, I'm all over that site ....... I've got something like four bikes, enough parts to build another complete bike, a mini-chopper (not running), and a goped with a cracked frame that's going to be stripped for parts for a micro-minibike like the Tom Thumb. And just think: I only got into these things a year ago .....

Tyler,

When you say the first one did not cut it for you do you mean you ran out media too quickly?? Did it overall do a good job or did it not work very well at removing rust and paint? if it had a higher media capacity would you have been happy with it?

Im looking at pressure pots right now to run in conjunction with my blast cabinet. I am using a free flow gun right now with foot pedal and it does great using Aluminum Oxide as the media. but I still want to remover paint and rust even twice as fast. So Im thinking of raising the height of my cabinet so I can fit a Pressure blast pot under it and plumbing it in with a ball valve. that way when Im out of media in the pot I can open the ball valve and the cabinet will drain the media back into the pot to be pressurized again and reused.

So how do you like the 10 gallon pressure pot? are you running sand or another media? if your running sand PLEASE use Good respirators. a friend of mine is now suffering with Silicosis. it is very painful.

thanks for any input you can give me man. I think this upgrade may be just the ticket for my Sandblast setup. I just recently put my sandblast setup together. For anyone interested go to www.tptools.com and check out their Commercial Grade Abrasive Blast Cabinets. I bought one of their bigger cabinets, a 5 layer Hepa Dust collector (Super Quiet) and last but not least I bought a Direct Mount Abrasive Reclaimer. I then topped it all off with 150lbs of Fine Alluminum Oxide. I have been told this particular type of media does not wear out like sand. We shall see. One guy on the web said he has been using the same Aluminum Oxide for two years in his cabinet.

The 5 gallon machine was just very innefient. I recomend the 10 gallon machine. Where running the recycled glass sand right now and I just sandblast outfront of my house and I dont reuse my media. Its the Sillica free stuff and I never wear any respirater at all, It doesnt make any dust at all that I can see.
