Urrgh. I think i lost a few pieces to the tranny. I knocked over the pile at the sink cleaning them.

Should i just rig up my spare clone and be done with it?

I have a tecumseh h60 that would better fit my mini bike.

okay well busy week but today i was able to get back on track.

i plan to put the harbor freight engine in the kart, use my differential, and put the transaxle axles into it. (they used to be double D bore, had to convert to 3/4 keyed)

greased it up and got some nylon lock nuts.

ill be using a 10T drive sprocket, 60T rear sprocket, and 18" wheels. just under 40mph.

the original engine that came with the kart before i totally modded it was a old tecumseh snowblower engine, 6hp, wayyyy overdue for a rebuild. im looking for a parts motor cheap this summer, im going to get a sandblaster, and make the engine look really nice.

spent most of today rebuilding a huskavarna backpack blower (however you spell it) lol. got it for $25 though not bad. i dont know what to do with it yet.

heres pics of the axle.

What did you do to that sprocket? Did you grind it? If I was you, I would use the money from the sandblaster you want to buy, and buy something more useful.

Jeremy.

yup. it was super rusty. so i just grinded it.

i was looking at the harbor frieght sandblaster stuff, seems like $100 for a powerful compressor, $60 for the tank and nossles, and then i need to buy sand? unfortunately no good sand in the backyard...

You need specific grit. Most likely, it won't even be sand. Different coarseness of grits will provide different looks. The finer, the smoother, the larger, the rougher look. But it is still very nice to have available.

oh i thought you could put anything in it that is like sand... hm...

the major sandblast project i see someday is getting my H60 to bare aluminum and making it really nice, i want to restore it to factory looks back in the 70's.

A sandblaster is basically just an air cannon. It will shoot whatever it sucks up and can fit through the nozzle. You could fire plain ol dirt out of it, but I would highly recommend you don't. Blasting media, especially silica based medias is potentially hazardous to you Health.

Look up silicosis, there's lots of horrible statistics about it which I wouldn't pay any mind too, but using bead or some other kind of tailored blasting media would be better.

You guys ever watch the YouTube videos where dude blends everything?

Ohhhh iPhone dust, don't breathe that....

I've been using Aluminum Oxide lasting media. Works very well.
Blue, you probably want to use that rear axle because you already had it, and/or it didn't cost you much. Just a warning, you're not likely to be happy with the performance. What are you doing for brakes on that axle?

I think 6:1 may be a bit high for 18 tires. You could make your own blasting cabinet to save some cash. You would just need to make the holes and get the nozzle and gloves. It would be pretty simple to make. Go to HF, carefully examine one, maybe take some photos, then go make your own! It's just sheet metal (14-16ga?), a hinge, and some steel.

A light if you really want to get snazzy!

Would plexiglass (or even lexan) not be prone to getting scratched up pretty quickly from the abrasive? You could put the glass in a fixed panel and make the door separate if that's a concern.

Unless you directly blast the window, the jet of air disperses quickly (in just a few inches). Any swirling media shouldn't harm it. Or get tempered, laminated glass and put the lamination out so there won't be any worries of it scratching.

I've been reading up on this. Seems a lot of people use replaceable plastic sheeting over the glass (or plexi) to protect it, as the scuffing can be a bit of a problem.
