Using another engine as a gearbox, Good idea?

Hello,
a friend of mine has a 80cc 4 stroke chinese honda dax clone, sweet little motor, He tried to build a drift trike a while back with it, wanted to route the chain in a diffrent way but it hit the alluminium motor housing, he used an angle grinder to grind some aluminium off and now he has a hole in the block cause he went too far... I said that im taking the motor from him 4 free and he was ok with it. It sat since winter so it does not run, probably carb issue or someting small, i've seen it running before, it ran good. I was thinking of fixing the hole in the block with some JB weld, its not big so its gonna be fine. After that i want to take off the cylinder, cylinder head, take out the piston, connecting rod and crankshaft to inspect it all. While im doing that i was thinking about just replacing the crankshaft with a solid axle where i can bolt a sprocket to, the sprocket will then be driven by a 200cc Honda gx clone.

rather B welding did the same thing, but he used a electric motor to power the engine thats now functioning as a transmission, here's the vid:

Do you guys think the 5 speed transmission (and clutch) of the 80cc Honda dax clone would survive the power of a stock Honda GX200 clone ? (the motor clone is from china and has 200cc, 7,5HP @3800RPM)
I would like to use the setup to power a full suspension mini- jeep, would be nice to have 4 gears so i can send it through some mud easier .
Whats your opinion on such a setup? Build, Break, Repat?

(I could also use a centrifuigal clutch on the Honda gx200 clone i've bought and run this to the "diy" Gearbox, so its half- Automatic)

Don’t use a shaft where the crank is. Just use the crank and have it rebalanced after removing the rod. Or have the pin removed and move it to the center of the crank.

Okay, but why should i not use a shaft? will it wear out quick? how should i balance the crankshaft?

There are others who did something similar. I believe there’s an old YouTube video from a guy (Maybe T-Man?) who used to have a bat mobile kart.

I think somebody else made the gear box and then he Bat Man got it.

I have seen the video from the T- man dude. Its a really cool transmission, should also be really strong becuase it was a 200cc engine before it got modified.

Metallurgy and machine work will be your biggest hurdles for making your own shaft. That’s why I said modify your crankshaft.
Okay, this is true....
I got the little 80cc honda dax motor home and started building an engine stand for it, From the outside it makes a really good impression, probably gonna build a Trike with it sooner or later.... Does a trike need a differential, or can i run both rear wheels as engine driven wheels?

My version of karting involves a live rear axle where both wheels turn in turn.

Under-steer; give more throttle.

Over-steer; more throttle

Not fun; more throttle.

Too scary; more throttle!

Basically there is no need for slipping differentials when you have

Throttle!!! Lol

Yeah, this is true, for my full suspension kart i bought a Live axle kit (30mm Ø x 1000mm Long) for 200€, can't wait to install it when i finish the Frame, With the honda dax engine however i wanna build a trike, I wanna use a live axle on it too, but im not sure if you can steer a trike when you have a live axle, because the front "axle" only has 1 wheel (1 wheel at front=less friction to the ground and less weight at the front).... I guess i have to find that out myself, LOL.

Is that why those old Honda ATC death trikes were banned and why people seem to only make trikes for drifting with PVC tire sleeves? And now seems like companies only making reverse trikes.

The live axle on the death trike relied on balloon tires and sidewall flex to turn.

If you lean hard, I’m assuming you can turn if up on two wheels.

A trike will not turn with a live axle. You will need to use a peerless axle with a diff.
I have two peerless lawntractor differential axles at home that you mount a sprocket to. One of them needs new bushings but other than that they are good to be used. What i dont like about them is that they only have a 19mm axle, a bit small to run in a trike thats probably gonna be used offroad much.

I've seen his video in the past, I think its all about driving skills. My friend built a trike (it only spins 1 rear tire), This thing is not for drifting, its beeing used like a gokart . The only time he crashed was when his front suspension forks BROKE off, because cheap china metal....
