Nice! that looks good

Looks to me like a motorcycle brake caliper and hand grip/modified to a cable... is that a secondary sprocket as the disk brake. i gotta say i like it, good work

That's freaking awesome. I love the John Deere theme. Nothing runs like a Deere.

Thanks for the props, guys- means a lot to me. This project haunted me. It is very easy to go buy a buncha stuff off the shelf and bolt it all together. Building something from junk is a whole other thing...

Answers in no order-

*Yes, the rear tires (16x6.5-8) ARE the original lawn tractor tires. They're not that great, but they will do for now.

*The industrial ventilation fan- A Delhi BI-10RM restaurant kitchen exhaust fan donated a length of 3/4" shafting, and two mint pillow blocks for the jackshaft

*The brake master cylinder, hose, and caliper are from a 1988 Yamaha XV250 Virago motorcycle. The brake "disc" was the original lawn tractor axle sprocket. Re-using it saved me the price of a brake disc.

*Yes, the brake master cylinder was handlebar-mounted on the bike (front brake). I fabbed an actuator cam to replace the handle and work with a cable. Neat note- I never had to bleed the brakes because I never took the system apart. Straight off the bike and onto the kart as a complete assembly.

*The steering wheel (Nobody asked, but I HAD to tell you)- A Logitech Force Feedback. (Computer game stuff). I saw that at the curb one day, and HAD to!

If they work for lawn tractors, they'll work for go karts :D

Really, thats a computer steering wheel? Now THAT is some creative thinking right there. :)

Your kids better thank you :D

They are ecstatic! They helped break it down for paint, and over the last few evenings, they helped me re-assemble and set up. The graphics were a total surprise. The kids were outside playing when I applied them (they didn't even know I had 'em), and when the older one came inside, he did a double-take and nearly lost his mind!

Nice steering setup!

Thanks, it worked out well. Rack and pinion from old lawn tractor, rod ends from ancient Honda ATV. Steering is light and easy, one full turn, lock-to-lock.

I think somebody asked about the rearend, too. It does have a differential- I wanted the kart to handle well (and it cost me nothing!) so the kids would be able to control it easily. It does handle well, but as you can imagine, it's a bit weak in the traction department with that diff in there. It's great for young'uns, but I don't suggest a diff for slightly older folks looking for a thrill ride. Later as the kids age and skills improve, I'll swap it out for a live axle.
