Wow! That's awesome. The only thing I'd change is the red. Doesn't mesh nicely with the JD theme IMO. I love the video, it looks like a blast to drive!

The steering wheel, or the braking components? I just could NOT figure out how to alter the colour of the wheel, and I thought it would be cool if the brake parts popped out...

My older son was just diggin' it! He even had some drift going in some of the corners. I guess I will be upping the max speed sooner than later. First I will max out the governor and give him some seat time, then I will raise the final drive ratio.

J.Concepcion- I can't upload pics right now, this POS computer's giving me a hard time. I'll try it again tomorrow.

Capt Canadia, He mentioned the gearing in another post. See post 56

Thanks for the pics toystory!! they really helped. So you just took the MC and cut the long piece off of the lever and attached the pedal and the return spring to that?? Sounds easy enough that i couldnt mess it up. lol. One more question... HOw did you mount the MC down to the frame?? I cant tell by those pics so i thought id just ask..

Umm, not quite. I took the factory handle off and traced it onto paper. I "cut off" (with my pencil) the hand part of the lever, and drew in an arm that the cable could attach to. The new arm, FTR, was about 90* off the factory lever. I carefully marked in the pivot bolt location, and transferred the pattern to a piece of 5/16" steel plate. Drill, cut, file, paint.

A piece of 1/4" steel plate was welded to the frame, and I used the factory handleber clamp bolts to attach the master cylinder to this plate, having used a transfer punch to locate the holes correctly.

Just a wee update here. Some time back, the governor failed internally- the press-fit gear shaft worked it's way loose in the block and threw the whole system off. I epoxied it back in and it was good... for awhile...

And it has let go again. Dang chinese engines! (And no, "Dang" is not the brand name). So- to heck with it- the engine's coming apart again, and this time the governor guts hit the trash bin. I have purchased a new sprocket for the jackshaft to raise the gear ratio- something I was going to do anyway. This will speed up the kart (yay!) and put more a load on the engine for running ungoverned.

And then, on top of it all, I'm going to have my son (toystory2) do as much of the work as possible. So- Drain fluids, remove and disassemble engine, strip governor, reassemble engine, remount engine, fab new throttle linkage, regear kart. This should prove interesting!

That kart is amazing! Where did you find the John Deere racing team sticker? I would love one to throw on my drag tractor

Thanks- but this was no record-setter for time, believe me. This project got stalled more than once- awaiting parts and/or inspiration/ and/or free time. At one point, I felt so guilty about it, I bought the kids a riding mower so they'd have something to bomb around on until I could finish...

I think I mentioned this earlier, but in case I didn't- I went to a graphics shop and had the logo and script made for (IIRC)$10.

I absolutely love it! Very nice job putting it together - I can appreciate the effort that went into creating this kart.
