I have taken this kart down to individual pieces to repaint and rebuild for my son. It's currently on saw horses ready to sand blast. However, I walked into the shed to put something up, last night. BAM! My old (4 yrs old) generator looks back at me. It runs fine, but doesn't generate. AH HAA! It has an 11 hp McCulloch 4 stroke. Maybe....No wait this kart is supposed to be for my son. Do you reckon I can govern it down when he's riding, then pull the pin when I ride?

just setup a screw on the petal so you can loosen it or tighten it to make it go slower/faster

I agree. Make something that you can just flip down and flip it back up when you want to go fast. Be aware that eventually they will learn how to remove the stops and rip around like daddy.:cheers2:

I thought that could wear out the clutch very quickly due to excessive slipping of the clutch?

Better to change the gearing to give it a low top speed (but it will spin the wheels all the time :roflol: ), and then put on higher gearing when you want to use it. However, this could be inconvenient depending on how your kart is set up.

Yeah, most generator motors have funky shafts, you may have to set up a jackshaft of sorts to use it if you can't find a suitable clutch.

Like it's already been mentioned, slowing the motor will also affect clutch engagement, which is not a good thing, especially if it can't fully engage. Best to stick with changing gear ratios, although more tedious.
