i was going to buy the super cheap shocks for 10 bucks, but my dad was talking about his polaris rzr 800, it has been out three times, and my dad is buying a long travel suspension kit, so he gets new a arms new tie rods, extended axles, etc, and best of all new shocks, and i get the old shocks, the fronts give like 3.5 inches before the bump stop and the backs get like 4.5 inches before the bump stop, so if i mount them half way then i will get 7 inches in the front, there made for a 800lb buggy with two riders, but they can be adjusted, my plan it to mount the closer to the pivot point to get more suspension travel because half way on the a arms will be to hard, it may have a foot or more of suspension travel, they say it has 14 inches of ground clearance so i can have alot of travel, im going to price out tires but i now have like 600 of my own money now, and my dad will go halves for parts so i have about a 1200 dollar budget, i may not spend that much tho,

Lucky you on the wheel-and-tire budget!! Your shocks sound awesome... with tons of travel. Our karts have very soft shocks at this time, and for our trial run, they worked great. You will have something that looks like a sand-rail when you are done, that will be more comfortable to ride than a Cadillac! I'll watch your build for pictures!

ya i plan to take it quading with us, i will be driving it in the mountains, there are lots of bumps rocks etc. it should handle great, to get decent shocks for me would cost like 300 bucks, so that knocked some money, closer to be able to buy good tires, im trying to find an old quad, pull the tires off, minimum for me to get the tires the plans call for will be 400 with shipping

More

No messing around today... I impacted the hubs on as you can see, and used lock-tight on the keys. These things need every bit of extra support they can get

Yeah, they are both mobile, but the brake systems aren't set up quite yet.... so they are like adrenaline-karts. The throttle setups are still a bit crude, and need back-stops to prevent someone from going too far, and bending the armatures or breaking the cables. The seats still have their blue and red covers to be put on, and a few other small items to be finished.

Thanks to this website, especially the forum, we were able to solve many problems that would have slowed us down, or worse, stopped us. Although we spent more money than we expected, this was the funnest and most rewarding project we have ever tackled.

The magic of go-karts, and the satisfaction of finishing a huge project is something that everyone on this site can attest to. Keep go-karting everyone!!

Edit: Souperman, we used Manco, 82" throttle cables off of Ebay.

Here is a list of what we have left.

1. Brakes
- Pedal and Fluid
2. Expanded Steel under-body
3. Forward/Neutral/Reverse cable setup for shifting
4. Chain Tensioners
5. Steering Tweaks
6. Seat Belts
7. Front end support
8. Paint
9. STRAIGHT PIPE!!!!!!!

Further Projects on the Karts:
1. Roll cage (Further down the line)
2. Lights
3. Move electric start closer to driver
4. Maybe another pillow block in rear middle

Still a lot left but it is nice to have them running. Feels more like we actually built something with a purpose rather than just a pile of steel welded together. The Tweaking of everything is going to be the tuff part. Getting those babies to turn as tight as then can will be hard.

Thanks for all the positive feedback everyone!

Ok, So I am getting ready to tackle this build myself. I was wondering what part of the kart you extended and by doing so did you have to extend any of the main frame rail.
