Hey... not to much to update as of today. This weekend, we have Saturday (7/21) blocked-off to put 4 pedals on. Next goal after gas and brake pedals: 80tooth sprocket purchase.

Yeah, been busy "winning bread" and "putt'n meat on the table"... happy 100 degree day again for those of you in the Midwest!

Quick question..... my rear tires/axle seem to shake/vibrate at all? Mine does.... just trying to find out why so I can fix it.

bent axle probably. you always want to have your axle sprocket as close to a bearing as possible for support so your axle doesn't flex.

Hey jdh, yeah.... there is "something" kinda floppy about the rear end. Even with heavy duty 1.25" pillow bearings.... it's almost like those aluminum hubs that "clamp" to the axle just aren't heavy duty enough. Our big 25" tires kinda bounce all over right now.... AND one of the keys slid out of the keyway already... even after I tightened the *&^$% out of the allen bolt. I did some research on better solid-hubs for 1.25" axles... but I just can't find any that will work for 4" bolt patterns. Henry and I first jacked up the rear end, and re-centered the acorn nuts and wheels on the hubs and re-tightened the nuts... hoping the problem was that a hub was off-center... but it doesn't seem that much better. I'll keep you posted on any solutions! Keep up the good work... it's been about 96 degrees and humid here for a few weeks... and I'm sure we'll be "losing weight" out in the barn on Saturday. Rock and Roll!

Thanks all! I will look into it. We have too small of a torque converter on ours now, so I have to change the back end around a bit anyway..... I will see what I can do to move the sprocket closer to the bearing.

I haven't done any measuring, but I told my brother it looks like there is a curve in the back axle when there is weight on it. I will have to give it a shot.

Let me know if you find new hubs and if so, how they work out for you.

OK, our new torque converter showed up. The new torque converter is HUGE compared to the 30 series we tried to get away with. I may have to redesign the back end. I was looking at your pics for some ideas. Do you have a way to tighten the chain? I didn't see a way, but maybe I am missing it? OR, perhaps you just have a chain idler to take up the slack as the chain stretches?

For starters I would start a new thread on your issue.
And start with make/model of your kart and what you have done to it thus this far.. pics go a long way on here.
Good luck.

Sorry, not trying to hijack this thread. ArachnidBrosMN know who I am and have been following my thread. We have the exact same build. I figured I would see how they accomplished certain things and vice~versa. I mentioned a vibration issue and they did too. I figure the best place for troubleshooting it is in this thread.

If ArachnidBrosMN want a new thread started for that, then I will consider it, otherwise I am looking for information on the exact same build.

No worries whatsoever on any posts. I figure, it's easiest to keep one thread going, than try and monitor 2 or 3. With an identical build, jdh and I have many similar issues. I suppose we could just Email each other.... but there are others on DIY that are also building the "Arachnid" also.

UPDATE ON THE KARTS:
I didn't take any pictures unfortunately.... We just hit the ground running on the pedals setup. We welded two pieces of 1"x1" at a 45 degree angle on top of each side of the steering-block facing the seat, that we hung the right and the left pedals from. We put 5 hours of work into this... and it seemed as if we got nowhere. Our 6' long throttle cables didn't come with threaded ends on each end, so we had to find a clasp that would tightly secure the engine-end of the cable...which was hard to do. I'll see if I can take some pictures this week of what I'm talking about. We're down to the last painstaking stuff!!!!!!!!!!!!

Attached is a picture of an idler-setup that I was looking at on Saturday. I think that the sprocket is too big for the small amount of distance we have between the transmission sprocket and the axle sprocket. We are still waiting to get our new 80 tooth sprocket and hub in the mail that will replace our 70 tooth we currently have. So many things to "dial-in" before these babies are finally ready for some distance!!!!

ArachnidBros,
My brother was speaking with a guy that has been in the business for a while, and he believes the cart is too heavy for just two bearings. He recommends doubling them up.

We are thinking about 5 bearings. The two in the spot as designed by the plan, 2 more further out and closer to the wheel hubs (at least within a few inches) and a 5th one close to the sprocket (to help with the torque put on the shaft at that point).

Thought I would mention it here.

Interesting idea. I think if anything, we should start by adding a bearing under our center engine support for a total of 3 bearings per kart. We should ask "CaptainCaveman" what he is doing... looks like his kart has a 750cc engine on it!! I'll talk with my brother and see what he thinks.

Edit: jdh, did you widen your kart from the original plans???

I bought the exact same thing as the plans recommend but I have not tried it yet.... I originally planned on inserting a 16 hp duromax  if I get flexing or anything I will add another bearing right in the middle I also have to put in a jack shaft to divert the chain which I plan on using pillow bearings on I have noticed though wobble on the tires and rims it may be the hubs are poorly made and not square to the axle if that makes sense

Hey swabbster, the suspension travel was the hardest part. The rears are supposed to get 3" inches of total travel. We made sure that even when the rear shocks are totally compressed, the gas tank on the kart cannot hit the seat back-rest. It took over an hour just to set up the shock mounts.... thank god we're addicted to these things... or we would have given up months ago!!!!

I hope to have an update and/or a new video on tuesday of next week, when I will finally have both the brake pedal and gas pedal finished, hooked up, and dialed-in!

Good luck to all you Arachnid guys out there... these are some cool karts!!

i was going to buy the super cheap shocks for 10 bucks, but my dad was talking about his polaris rzr 800, it has been out three times, and my dad is buying a long travel suspension kit, so he gets new a arms new tie rods, extended axles, etc, and best of all new shocks, and i get the old shocks, the fronts give like 3.5 inches before the bump stop and the backs get like 4.5 inches before the bump stop, so if i mount them half way then i will get 7 inches in the front, there made for a 800lb buggy with two riders, but they can be adjusted, my plan it to mount the closer to the pivot point to get more suspension travel because half way on the a arms will be to hard, it may have a foot or more of suspension travel, they say it has 14 inches of ground clearance so i can have alot of travel, im going to price out tires but i now have like 600 of my own money now, and my dad will go halves for parts so i have about a 1200 dollar budget, i may not spend that much tho,
