What size sprocket do you have??

Hey Triple T- we are using a 70 Tooth on the axle and a 10 tooth off the TC,

BUT as you can see in the picture of the sprocket with chain... we are probably going to need chain-idlers to keep chain-wip to a minimum. Also, if 7:1 feels too slow... we might have to go to 6:1. We shall see!

Looks really good. I've had a hard time getting back to the kart and I'm really happy to watch you guys, Lots of excellent info. I have to slow down on buying parts until I save up a little. The dog just got her lip torn off buy a coon today and superglue didn't work so we had to take her in for some expensive sutures. Anyway, I'm going with the same size tires, those are awesome. I got rid of the extended warranty on the predator and will soon remove the gov and get a nice exhaust and K&N filter. We got the seat the other day, orange and black like the Beavs.

Keep up the good work.

forgot to ask, what size tires and rims, and bolt pattern? I assume those are ATV tires and rims. Thanks

The rims are a common "4 inch bolt pattern" and are used on golf karts, and some atvs. The Arachnid plans called for the these rims and hubs... and I hope they hold up as good as a 5-bolt!!!

We purchased the tires and rims already mounted on Ebay. (earlier post).

Yeah... these karts have gotten expensive... but at least we are on the home stretch!!!

man yall are moving along!

I was gonna mention that your welds were a little high like you werent gettin penetration but later pics looked fine and the karts look sic. but one thing to note and its not your fault but the way that the plans call for heim joints to be used as ball joints in kind messed up. they arent designed for that type of stress load. The sphere is pressed in them from the side so thats where it would most likely come out. if you notice car ball joints are open on the bottom and closed on the top. Heim joints are ment more for ladder bar out 4 link type suspensions and those "economy ends" ( thats what speedway calls them ) arebad about wearing and gettting slop and and rattle. but to be honest I would have bout those too. not trying to be negative just informative. I would atleast carry a spare heim so you dont end up stranded.

Thanks for the heads-up on the heim joints ... Since these are our first builds EVER... We're expecting a lot of "learning curve" and some re-engineering to come in the future... We should be driving them this Sunday if everything goes as planned... So dang pumped!!:)

We drove one!!!

Ok, so I didn't take very many pictures this weekend, but lots of work was accomplished with Henry home from Minneapolis. We hit the ground running on Saturday... welded the front shock-mounting brackets on each kart. Then we "set-up" the front shock mount weldments and welded them to the front ends. We then took the rear shocks and shock-mounts and welded them to the sub-frame and the lower engine-frame. Using a crawler car-jack, we "set-up" the rear perch-angle of the kart without a person sitting on it, and made sure that we could not bottom-out the kart when the shocks were all the way compressed. Then, after purchasing the hardware to bolt all 16 top and bottoms, I looked at Fleet Farm for some tires that could "get us going" and get the karts rolling. Tall thinner tires for the front (like on a sand rail) were the least expensive, and could get us rolling. Henry welded the steering rod support while I drilled the front spindles out for a cotter-pin. In the end, we drove one of the karts with NO BRAKES (do not do this without a long stretch of road!) using a string attached to the throttle. We found out that the kart is geared TOO HIGH, and the belt on the TC squeals when it engages... and the tires still peal-out!! So.... much tweaking is needed... but these things are WAY COOLER than we thought!!! Wooooo Whoooo!!

Welding with open-toed shoes, that rocks! Really, I think it's pretty cool. I'm jealous because I've had to slow down on our kart due to money and other projects. I'm installing a turbo on my diesel truck and it's been about a year since I started so now I need to get it done. Although my boys and the neighbor kid pulled the engine out of the box (420 Predator) and fired it up. I think we'll wait on any mods, the thing is a beast.

Please keep posting, I love watching the build and I'm getting a lot of info from your work. Thanks so much.

Looks good. My wife says, "that's not a go kart". She was thinking of something a little smaller. It's a kart buggy, sandrail sort of thing.

I also wanted to know where you got your seat from, because i prefer that seat to a bucket seat but i cant seam to find one like that that comes with the mounting kit or whatever you need to put it on your cart.
