well ive asked alot of questions on here now and i guess its about time to start a build thread.

The reason I got this thing a few months ago was i rode a friends POS, which he calls The Turd, around over Memorial weekend and worked on it more than rode it. we had vice grips holding the right rear tire on by the end of the weekend.....so I challenged him to a build off with these things. we decided that we would both work on our own all year and see whos is cooler.....haha.....mind you were both in our 30s.

Had to name it Turd 2

so heres what I started with.....just a 3hp. lots of stuff wrong with it.

I cut all the rear stuff off of it and the side bars.....they were bent and welds were broke anyway. BTW what are those even there for?

so i got a 8hp from my grandpa who had a chipper that he didnt use anymore. Nice...

we built a skid plate to protect the steering. was alot easier than redoing all the steering.

welded some square tube to the round to straighten the frame back up and remounted the rear axel. it wasnt a live one.

so now im getting ready to mount the engine and start building the brake mount. what im thinking is having both the sproket and the disk close to the tires to protect em from rocks and other stuff i may run over. is this a good idea? Im going to cut off that tube that goes up in the back. its in the way right now.

One of your pillow blocks is on reverse. One has the flange out and one has the flange in. If your going to run spacers from your hubs to the bearing flange then be sure to cut them different lengths if you dont switch the position of the bearing.

im gonna run lock collors on the back of each rim.....but i did notice that when i was measuring the distance from the bearing to the end of the shaft. this is all mock up, im gonna paint it up after i get everything in place so i'll probably turn one of em around.

Hey, its looking good man.

Those nerf bars were for protecting you from other karts or mishaps like broad sliding in to a tree or something. Yours might have also been helping to reduce a bit of frame flex, so they might even make it handle a little better too. I'd consider building some new/better ones kinda like these: http://www.cometkartsales.com/store/chassis/cpa/images/new/nerf11.jpg They're usualy made from 3/4' x .065 mild steel tubing.

Sorry for the interruption but what do you call this part and where could I get them? I dont see it at Northerntools. I only see the one you weld it on and I'm not a welder.

Please show us more picture and completion.

I would like to post and show off mine once i begin. Still trying to learn terminology.

Thanks guys. That guy must not know much at northern tools when I tried to ask him. He only showed me the weld-on one.

Wow cheaper than the weldon kit. I will have to go get one and see how it works and how it prevent the axle from sliding left and right.

Yes, I can't wait to see your kart with new tires.

every time i've seen nerf bars out of the side on older karts, they were for a body (f1, cobra, mustang, vette, etc)

Yep and I've notice theres also serveral diferent lengths and styles of race kart nerfs that were designed to either mount plastic side pods, oval race type side body panels or sometimes to not mount any aditional bodywork at all.

What size are the rims?
What size are the tires?
Where did you get them?

Are those rims drilled for a hub? or keyed?

Thanks
