* I (temporarily) borrowed the front wheels off of my mini-Aerial Atom kart
...'cause they B the size rims
...& height of tires, that I'ma wantin' ta use
But,
They are just for fitment purposes
...'cause they are composite (plastic)
...& they don't have any way of mountin' a brake system

* Important notes:
STEERING
1. Steering arms, tie rods, ball joints, and all hardware serving to mount any steering
elements must be equivalent or greater in strength than a .375” diameter steel rod.

2. Kingpins must be made of material that is as strong or stronger than a .375” solid steel
rod.


The tie rods & associated hardware are 3/8"
...& the King Pins (& spindles) are 5/8" (extra HD) ;)

They will "double" as floorboard mounting points too ;)

So, I had ta drill a 1/4" hole in all of them
...& ta "knock 'em out" quickly
...& "make 'em match", I did 'em all at once :thumbsup:

These "ribbed" tires are what I have in mind

Seems like they would have a low rolling resistance (as compared to treaded tires)
...& maybe even less (RR) than the "full contact patch" of "slicks"
...but, hopefully still "give" a bit of "sideways" traction on turns (to help prevent sliding/spin outs) :thumbsup:

Very cool. I hope you can get some the right size. These wheels are somewhat unicorn in width.

The numbers are just "notes" to myself. I measured runout/concentricity at the rim in order to make sure ya don't go down the road with wheels wobbling. Blue/green only signifies which marker was handy.
HC means high point of concentricity.
TSO means this side out.
Any other marks are just were the high points of runout are and how much. The flanges are then adjusted and welded.
The wheels & flanges are OK
The brakes are so light and thin it was futile to try and adjust. You'll need to adjust the brake rotors when ya install 'em
You might need to index them and tork the bolts for minimum runout.

A side trivia note, (totally worthless) The wheel flange is treaded 5/16X24 as discussed. That is one of the 'merican sizes that is also metric..
The 8MM bolts that hold the wheel together fits the 5/16 threaded holes. Try it.

This distance gonna make turning hard. That's a lot of arc the centerline of the tire will be moveing around the kingpin pivot.
If there's any caster you will be fighting to lift the vehicle weight with the steering wheel.

Hey WTR,
Well...for comparison, I measured the KP to the center to the tire, on my Hell-raiser kart (no front brakes)
...& it looks ta be ~3 1/2"

Then, I measured the KP to the center of the tire on my Sequoia racer (with front brakes)
...& it looks to be ~5"

So, it looks like the center of the wheel is ~1 1/2" out further outward (on each side) with a brake rotor
...than, usual
...or without the brake rotor

Personal commentary:
I haven't really noticed much of a difference in the steering between my karts with front brakes & my karts without

...which shows the front wheels (in action) pretty good ;)
