Troubles getting motor started

Hey y'all I'm currently building a doodlebug and I had a 5hp Briggs flathead that I somewhat rebuilt and cleaned out. I threw an Amazon 19mm clone carb on it with and matching intake pipe. I've had it running in the past but for some reason can't get it going now. I tore apart the carb and cleaned it out but still nothing. Any suggestions on what I should do next?

Spark + fuel + compression =

Could be anything, clogged jets, clogged fuel line. You got to treat fuel like a precious commodity and make sure there's not dirt floating around in it (long term).

So it has never run with the new clone carburetor? That's what I'm reading but then again that can be misinterpreted. Welcome to the forum by the way.

I had it running a couple times with the new carb but now I’m not getting anything. I’m thinking I’ll tear apart the carb again and clean it

What is a doodlebug? The Doodlebug minibike? If you can, posts pics of the engine and carb area. We got experts here that can ID problems just with a photo.

Baja Doodlebug. I posted one here. If you squint you can barely make out the logo on the front fender. They are out of production now, sort of replaced by the Coleman minibikes or other "brand names" they tack on, but they're sort of really desirable now for their no-nonsense classic design.

Yes that’s it but it’s pretty rough shape now I picked up the roller frame on marketplace

Maybe the intake and/or carburetor rattled loose from the engine inducing a vacuum leak, which makes the mixture get air from the carb and from the leak, thus leaning out the mixture.

Just a thought.

If I remember correctly, my Tecumseh needed large jets because of the shape of the intake pipe. Had to toss a lot of jet at it because that dumb intake probably only allows half of it to stay atomized. The other half probably pools up as liquid

Right, I agree and see the probable issue. What I expected to see was a short, straight intake (as the trend goes on the minibike/go kart crowd) and not something that long, plus that 90° (?) bend.

He said it ran before though, Bob.

And yes you can drill out the jet, but go slowly and go size by size upwards. Get a pin vise (manual twist drill) and a set of micro drills

Welp I mighta screwed that up I just grabbed the tiniest drill bit I had but when slow and straight possible

Had it running this last Sunday rode maybe 200 yards then it died and won’t come back

Also that was before I cleaned the carb out. It was constantly pouring fuel out of where you put the air filter on but after I took it apart and cleaned it it stopped doing that

Sounds like a float issue (with the fuel coming out).

Otherwise the whole deal sounds like good ol' beginners luck.
Good motor though. Love how slow you can get a Briggs 5 horse to tick over.

Doesn't that black plastic spacer have a direction. Put it on backwards and it blocks a passage?

Might want to clean this up too.
