Hey everyone i got the engine from my last tread working so ive decided for now to leave the kart with its current setup but now that i have it running it wont sit at idle. the engine will idle but the kart wants to take off. ive never had a kart with a tc before how do they work? should the belt be loose or tight(it seems very loose and when i try to tighten it the chain on the other side gets loose). Is it the work belt? but really my biggest question is why is it stuck in gear? all im doing is unchoking the engine and it takes off just to let you know any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks again

black plastic screw, you should back it out a qtr turn at a time, and you should also fine the proper spec's for your TC so you know how lose the belt should be.. Is it a TAV witht he backing plate or just a TC without the backing plate?

TC sticking

You'll have to take apart the front (engine) sheaves and make
sure they are opeing all the way when stopped. Could be
sticking on the shaft from old lubricant etc. Belt looks good
and loose in pic so it should be fine

Torque Converter help

in addition to the excellent advice the other great guys gave you, try going to gokartsupply.com and checking out the Torque Converter Maintenance section. They have some excellent diagrams that show not only how to take apart your TAV but also how to clean and lube it. it sure helped me learn allot about Torque Converters when I first got into karting.

good luck to you,
Jared

looks like you need to take that thing apart and clean it up and greese it . Rust on the sheeves may be causing the belt to grab also.

re:just a question

hello i have similar problem. my belt is loose and its brand new but when i turn on my go cart it won't go. shaft spins while cart is idling but when i press the gas, go cart does not move at all. could my chain be too tight from jackshaft to final drive sprocket and what are sheaves?
