Im a dad helping son swapping over from live axle to torque converter.
Looking for confirmation on my sizing chart before purchasing torque converter.
9 hp engine shaft 1"
Axle size 1" then step down to 3/4 threads.
Tire hub size is 3/4 "

Need new axle due to many many welds from previous owner moving brake and live axle gear.
Any help is appreciated.

NO DUPLICATE THREADS! A moderator will delete the duplicate.
"live axle to torque converter."? Torque converters CANNOT replace live axles! Two vastly different systems.
Torque converter is power transmission, live axle is suspension.
It sounds like you need a 40 series torque converter or equivalent.
What engine, what kart, we need pictures, what in particular is wrong with you axle?

Was a murry cart with a gear reducer. Son took off reducer and lost it. Cant replace. No more found on net. Tried to run chain from centrifical clutvh to gear booger welded on axle. Engine strains but wont move. Want to put new axle on and remove centrifical clutch and add torque converter.

If the sprocket was boogerwelded on, you have to replace the WHOLE axle. And to do that unfortunately, you have to cut off the bearing hangers.
The reason why the kart did not move, is because you probably had a gear ratio equal to or HIGHER than ~1/1!
Thus, it probably would've gone 60+ mph, but would have taken hours to get there! (figurative)
A torque converter WILL NOT HELP until you get a MUCH bigger sprocket.
You need a gear ratio of probably ~6/1.
Yes a TC will help with bottom end power, but you will still not accelerate.
In short:
YOU NEED A MUCH BIGGER SPROCKET!!!

Sounds like the jackshaft was removed and you now have a gearing issue. How many teeth on your axle sprocket?

I was gonna buy a new torque converter KIT (tc pullys, belt, cover, mini gear, jack shaft), gear and a new axle gear.
Add tc to engine, add new gear to axle. The axle hangers are bolted on. I was going to add a plate and weld them to frame (not the bearings just the brackets)

JT! man stop yelling at him lol, and I don't think an axle is suspention and he also said he was planning on getting a new one. Gopowersports and bmi karts have parts like axles and sprockets as well as torque converters. But yes you'd wan't a gear ratio of atleast 6:1

Well first: I think you got a bit lost there on the nomenclature ;)

A live axle means both wheels turn at the same speed even if both wheels are off the ground.
whereas a dead axle kart (one wheel peel) only drives ONE wheel (usually the left one)
and a differential kart has while being "live" a differential axle but it's sometimes too refered to as live (since both rear wheels are powered)

Engine shaft size and horsepower is in fact important..
with a 9hp engine you are on the edge..
technically (going strictly by the book) you need a series 40 Torque Converter
you COULD get away with a series 30 however (just order the correct driver bore of 1" of course)
it's technically rated for only 8hp but withstands a bit more without much of an issue.

The step down on your axle isn't important at all for this, since that's oly what the wheel hubs attach to, nothing the TC is actually aware of.
tyres are the nasty black rubber thingamabobs resting on the silvery rim which itself contains or is bolted to the wheel hub.
short: there is no such thing as a tyre hub ;)

1" axles with stepdown can be found from Azusa (azusaeng.com)
pick the desired length and find that axle online (say at mfgsupply.com or alike)

You'll also need two more hubs
One for the axle sprocket (what you call live axle gear I assume)
that needs to be picked for the sprocket and axle diameter
(I personally like split sprockets since they're easier to swap... but whatever you like will do
as long as it's the correct chain size and toothcount)

And another one for the brake (I hope disc.. but even drums usually conenct bolt to hubs)

Nothing must ever be welded onto the axle!
very few exceptions, none in the karting world! (some atvs have..nevermind)

So all kart hubs are keyed and come with locking mechanisms of various kinds
(set screws, slitted with clamping bolts, self locking tapers.. etc)

Some require locking collars to prevent them from lateral movement (that's what PO welded for I guess)
most don't.

Once you picked a type and style, make sure to let us know before ordering, in case we want to give specific advice (on if locking collars or not or not working for some reason etc)

And when in doubt: always post pics!
