picked up a sweet little cart off a buddy doing a yard cleanout last fall, sat over the winter cause it was cold in ohio :( but got her tore down now, plan is to totally refinish it, top to bottom back to front. Have access to a sandblaster, paint booth, etc. etc. Have taken pics, and will be posted very soon, about to upload them. Would like some input on what direction to take. Has a B&S Funpower 5, torque Converter, ATV Knobbys on rear, and solid posi. Carb issues, but kicks over with a little fluid, then shuts off, have new carb, just going to refinish the motor before reassembly, everything is stripped except the rear axle at this point. :cheers2: :auto:

what I want to know is: cant sandblast the engine block, yet i want to remove all the dirt and grease. Not sure how to go about that? clean it with gas maybe? or parts solvent? degreaser and a wire brush? also, Having a bit of trouble getting the big sprocket off the axle, undid the bolts, but its stuck pretty hard. gotta use PB and a hammer I guess? or maybe there's a trick I'm missing. Dunno. Also dont have a blast cabinet big enough for the frame. . . wire wheel i guess? does anyone know of any chemicals that would be good to use on the frame itself to help remove some of the rust and old paint so i can sand it and get it ready for primer? Also, thinking of getting a smaller sprocket to put on the axle, to deliver more speed of course :devil2: But not sure if with it being a torque converter, if that can be done without significant acceleration loss? Dont know too much about the Belt drive clutch/torque converter drive :furious2:

I've heard customers tell me they use aircraft stripper on the frame. I'm sure bighead will tell us about some sort of product by Por15 that works the same. :p

Don't jump too small on the drive sprocket, it might put too much stress on the torque converter, also consider use of a larger jack-shaft sprocket, it will be cheaper and easier to change.

thanks man, aircraft stripper, ill look into it i suppose ha, sounds pricey, and maybe 2 inches in diameter smaller sprocket on the driveshaft? the jackshaft sprocket would be hard to change, as the converter has a shroud over the end, that also guards the chain, and i wouldnt mind keeping that there as i plan to sell when complete.

Look into the POR15 Starter kit. It will cost you $20 to paint that kart. You may have enough to do the wheels as well. Just wire wheel the rust and use por15. Done

Search this site for POR15 and you will see some of my threads.

sandblaster is at work so no blasting outside . . . gotta do it kinda under the table as it is :( I'll look into the por15, what is it? does it truly work as good as you say it does, and i took a bunch more pics, going to post on mon. when i get to work. My Iphone doesnt sync to this pc :furious2: But itsw completely stripped now, No motor, no steering wheel, no anything except that rear axle, there has to be a trick I'm missing to getting that sprocket off. Ive tried everything i have to get it off there and its about a son of a gun. Any suggestions would be much apreciated .

I have no idea what size the chain is. Ill have pictures up in a matter of minutes, but does anyone know if its normal, how my torque converter is set up? the converter is mounted and welded to a steel plate that sits under tho motor and the motor mount bolts run through it. Is that normal? Also anyone know anything about the brand? T.C. Go-Fur by

Nothing about your set-up looks homemade. Sometimes those axles can be rough, invest in penetrating fluid and be patient.

yeah, i took them both out. its been sitting in penetrating fluid for 3 days now :idea2: Havent tried it lately because of the weather. Ice falling from the sky last night. work my 2nd job tonight so wont get a chance. But wednesday should be a working evening. Also I ordered a new angle grinder and wire wheels for it. and a wire wheel set of drill bits. All in one order from harbor freight for a grand total of $28.00 USD. Ha ha what a deal. so hopefully wednesday I'll get that sprocket off and remove the axle. Then when my new tools come in i'll start removing rust and paint :cheers2: Of course i will post new pics as things progress

Here's a question. Should I go with a maroon color, as it was before, and keep the original stickers, more of a restore job? make it original? or should i shave the stickers off too, and put a sweet metallic hot green or blue color on it and do the wheels up nice, make it a little custom kart? Im tryin to decide. What do you guys think?

If you have access to a torch of some kind. Heat the sprocket a little bit and tap it with a hammer or dead blow.

Dont get it red hot, just enough for the metal to expand ever so slightly. Makes getting rusted parts apart pretty easy.

I have even used a ciggarette lighter to get bolts unstuck before.

Got some new pics . . . Did the engine teardown last night . . . also no new headway getting the sprocket off. or the brake disc. it doesnt have bolts holding it on, just slides on the sxle and keyway. but the body work i think i can hanlde easy enough .. . however im no expert on te engine. everything seems to be intact, short of needing a good cleaning. . . . anyone who knows these better than i should study the pics and see if anything is oput of place . . . thanks guys

also, if your wondering, that big gross blob on the magneto was a hornets nest lol good thing it was winter so i could yank it off wihtout being attacked. it completely filled that side of the housing . . . there were more than ten frozen hornets in there. and i ordered the complete new gasket set from briggs, also ordered the pickup for the carb, as that is what was damaged before, and a couple new air filters and a new spark plug. saved on shipping to get tehm all at once. so thats 38 bucks to hopefully be running again . . . we'll see. i dont want to order a new carb if i dont have to. :stir:
