You could buy a bulley go carting clutch or a noram clutch. The noram is around 130 and the bully clutch is moderate maintence but there kinda expensive 200-400 I think.

Secondhand clutches here I come! :D

How well do you think a heavy-duty "Max Torque" clutch will do for a while?

What maintinance does it require other than a rebuild once in a while and a bit of oiling? (new clutches that is)

if you get a bully clutch or a steller clutch there VERY ajustable and require frequent maintenece. you need to clean them out about every 1 hour of run time. just google search bully kart clutch. Its what the pro's use. but a max torque clutch would work for a while. but a max torque clutch engages at like 2800 but a bully is ajustable. And normally high performance engines like yours and mine need to idle a bit higher than a stock engine.

Hmm... you have a point... is it normal for a modified engine to idle rather high?

I do, but usually it's either stuttering at lower speeds, or smooth idle at higher speeds... Maybe jetting too low? I'll have to do a plug reading.

Its not just a matter of adjusting the idle Kenny. Mod'd engines have lots of compression and very stiff valve springs and will just kick back if not idle'd high enough.

EXACTLY. That's why my dad's race-prepped chevy 283 only wants to idle at 1200rpm.

Yeah go kart kid you know what im talking about. Espeiclly if the engine runs on alcohol it will not like to idle low at all.

Oh goodie. 26lb springs, 6cc smaller head, SS Valves, new seats, flat top piston, and new rings.

I'm not sure how much compression it has, but it has enough for you to lift it up and swing it around.

If possible, couldn't I just open up the clutch and install stiffer springs? Of course then there's the question of how I'll put it back together.

What's a medium class clutch you'd recommend me installing? (In the 50-80$ range)

I dunno I tried to do some re-search for you but it seems like its "go big or stay at home" (meaning pay 39 bucks and burn it out in a month) or pay 120 for a NORAM and it will Last and last and last like the energizer bunny:roflol:

Anywho... I'm just gonna use up the old max torque clutch and see what happens!

Went to Sears today and bought a 12 point 1/4" drive socket, a 1/4" to 3/8" adapter, and a 3/8" torque wrench (inch pounds).

$80

Just noticed why that 1/2" drive wrench was so expensive. It was a torque wrench too! Good ol' lowes.

I had a Kobalt 1/2" Drive torque wrench. I didn't know what it was... didn't even know the price at the time.

At checkout... "$90?!?! It better be worth it..."

Today, while working on my car, the bolt blew off. ARGGGGG
