I got a 30 series torque converter for Christmas. I installed it on my go kart and it runs great. If anyone has advice on maintainace and belts that last long it would be nice if you could leave a few.

Clean polished sheaves. Keep the rocks out of it.
Clean and lube the driver unit on a regular basis. Same with the driven side. Not much else. They are fairly durable.

Keep the lube away from the belt area. Leaving the clutch uncovered and trying to run it on a humid/dewy evening is bad. Keep the belt and pulleys as dry and clean as possible. They made that cover for a reason. Just don't abuse it by attempting burnouts on pavement or even grass. Once you get rolling then you can give it heck. These belts won't last long under abuse. I loved doing doughnuts in the grass only after I got running and I did not let my tires stop because if I did, I could stress the belt and burn it up. Have a spare or two on hand. They are only $30 :D IF you treat the clutch with kindness, it will reward you by not eating your belts up.......... :D

Do you have a link for a recommended belt? I'm about to buy a knockoff 30 series and I want to run it with a good quality belt.

My torque converter is starting to chew the belt on mine. I have it aligned really good, it isn’t overgeared either. I am suspecting it is the red spring on the driver because it is engaging too early and the driver has little shredds of rubber on it. Should I consider buying a green spring a little stiffer? The cart runs great at low rpms before the driven kicks in.

Stock China TC's have a RED spring on the DriveN unit. It should be the same as the Comet GREEN spring. The stiffer spring for the DriveN unit is YELLOW. The Yellow Spring keeps the unit in lower gear longer. Should Rev higher before shifting into higher gear. You can preload the Red spring differently to change the shift point as well.

The DriveR Unit has two springs inside. These are the springs that control DriveR unit Engagement.

do you think a 212 cc with governor removed and header pipe and eventually an air filter upgrade kit would be too much power for the torque converter? I don’t have any other moded parts other than that

I have a predator 212 with exhaust and air intake upgrade, tillitson carb billet flywheel and cl-2cam with governor removed and it does just fine, just get a better belt, the Chinese one started shredding first ride on it

Unless it says Comet on it.... If it came with a kit, It is probably cheap. Remember these kits were as low as $50-something bucks. Good Belts are around $30.
