Ok guys, what I have is a Chinese knockoff of a comet 30 series tav2 mounted on a bone stock predator 212. I have converted the kart from centrifugal clutch to torque converter. I haven't counted the sprocket teeth so I don't know the final drive ratio. I cannot post pictures at this time but trust me when I tell you that the pulley alignment is perfect. The issue I am having is that when the kart is jacked up with the back wheels off the ground the driver and driven both operate perfectly and go completely through all of their ranges. As soon as I put the kart on the ground get on it and floor the gas the driver pulley tightens up and the kart moves in its lowest ratio (about 5mph) and never progresses past there. The driven never expands and the kart doesn't go any faster. So far to correct the problem I have perfected the alignment of the sheaves nearest the engine and also applied belt dressing to the belt to maybe prevent any slippage. There has been no change so far. My next step is to try adjusting the preload on the driven spring unless you guys can tell me what's wrong with this thing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I should also point out that this is a brand new unit and I am using the belt that came with it.

well..
likely.. geared too high

who knows if you're not counting the teeth.. but that's what it'll do if you're geared too high, just before shredding the belt.

If you want a more precise answer, you need to be more precise yourself first I'm afraid.
weight, wheeldiameter is needed to give good advice
(oh, that's TOTAL weight.. kart with all passengers seated!)
and current gear ratio would help just in case it's NOT because of the ratio.

These two things would be very helpful. It may be a gearing issue assuming that the brand new torque converter is probably fine. To help everyone involved you should probably get this info out to us.

Jackshaft teeth
axle teeth
tire size
approx. weight of kart and yourself.
pics of tav2 mounted as is (different angles).

Gearing is a 60T on the axle and 10T on the jackshaft. 13" tires. I weight 165lbs. Here's some pics including one showing the slack that I'm able to pinch which I think is correct.

2 possible clearance issues

1) chain binding on backplate
2) driven unit rubbing on wheel fender

Also. How are your brakes doing? Is the axle binding? Can you spin the rear wheels easily? When sitting do you acidentally apply pressure to brakes?

Did you jack with the governor or throttle linkages? Carb clean?

The chain was binding a little at first until I got the spacers right. More of a rub than a bind. But no resistance anywhere. Motor is running well as its almost new itself

I haven't messed with the governor and the engine is able to get full throttle.

Ok just double checked the throttle and the cable has somehow slipped out a little. I reached back and hit the one on the engine and ZOOM! Lol. Thanks Kartfab. You had a big influence on me buying the thing in the first place. I watched a youtube video of the cars and cameras guys and heard them mention you.

Never ever put belt dressing on a cvt belt!!!!! :mad2: Now you get to learn how to disassemble the clutches and clean it all out and replace the belt before it gets all stickey with dirt and grit and wears out. Foolish kids, I'm surprised none of you other guys caught that.

I did read that, but it never registered in my brain. Hopefully the dressing will wear off soon enough
