I'm getting ready to fabricate my engine mount for my buggy. I picked up some tubing a wile back, but I'm unsure if it is too thin.

So here's the question: ar 3 length wise 1 inch square tubing welded to the engine plate and to the kart going to hold a 459cc predator engine good enough, or do I need somthing bigger?

The tubing is thick walled

What exactly is your idea of “thick walled”? .120” wall tubing is common and plenty heavy if yer using 3.
lf it was me (and it isin the rem pile) l would use 2” x. .250 tubing. (No not really)

This is the thickness. I don't have a caliper, so I don't know how thick it is20230717_182614.jpg

Looks like either 1/8" or possibly 3/16". With 3 pieces of that under the motor plate you should be good, depending on how far the span is. How far are you spanning with the square tubing?

I think at 22" you should try to weld in something mid span. Your engine weighs 80 lbs dry. Add fuel, battery, and a torque converter and you're 100 lbs easy. Just now noticed you said you were going add cross bracing. Once that 100 lbs starts bouncing ( like while driving on anything other than smooth asphalt ) it may as well be 400. Over build a little. You have enough power that a couple of extra pounds won't affect it.

Should I get some inch and 1/4 then? The way I have to mount it to keep it level doesn't allow for another bar across. I could possibly brace upwards from another bar below.
